summary: Written for this prompt at the tsn_kinkmeme: Mark has an unrequited crush on Eduardo which Eduardo decides to exploit when Mark tells him that's he is going to get left behind.

( The morning Eduardo wakes up to find Mark leaning over him; Mark's hands hovering while his eyes look ever so hungry, he realizes that he's probably exactly as dumb as the box of rocks his father used to describe him as. )

This is so fabulous. I love fics that have this sort of role reversal, because we're used to it being Eduardo that's unrequited or far more obvious about it, and taking that dynamic and turning it on its head is just so interesting for me.

Although this:

One day in late 2008 he falls in love.

She's a junior programmer...

I'm pretty sure I literally started saying "no no no no" out loud. I was so confused when I saw the part about him and Mark being more, and then it clicked.

Thank you. It was interesting writing a fic where Eduardo didn't jump on the chance to jump Mark, and instead tried to dump him on various other people. Funny, actually, at least the part where Eduardo convinced himself that Alice looked kind of like Natalie Portman. :)

Thank you. It took me a while to mature it. I took a break (a three fic breaks to be exact) and that changed the direction I was heading a lot. It wasn't supposed to be this angsty and grown-up.

Thank you. I didn't want it to be this bittersweet but once I really, really thought about this, it seemed that the best and most realistic course of action was a slow development. One that would take time and the ability to compromise. I'm glad you liked it. :)

Dude, this is.. I haven’t ever read a story like this, in any fandom I think O.O
Secret love, duh, non-consensual, sure. But faking attraction for the sake of manipulation, woah..
I should probably note that I absolutely love it, every thought in Eduardo’s head seems so realistic to the situation, his dilemmas and the way he feels about Mark.. *breathes out*
Half the time I feel like I’m the one trying to fuck over my friend! The way you write just makes it so easy to get completely sucked in.

“..an open italics tag..." here Dustin fake-sniffles. "...standing there all alone with no one to close it, turning everything into sad little bowed letters."
"Chris," Eduardo calls out because he heard the saddest littlest italics tag monologue before. "Dustin's crying about code again."--I cannot stop laughing at this, hahahaha, I study multimedia design and spend time with a dozen Dustins every day; I have no problem imagining any of them crying over an open tag. Also, it was oddly romantic XD ( ... )

Writing Eduardo was difficult in the beginning and then got more and more difficult. He was so contradictory. He loved Mark, but not in that way, he lied to him, manipulated him, but also gave everything up for him. He beat himself up over his choices and his lies, but he continued him. Even when he apologized, he couldn't bring himself to come clean because he can't take the risk.

He wasn't very easy to write. The first time part... that was just pure misery.
