COMMENTARY: Nocturnal

Oct 03, 2010 01:35

So ages ago I did a poll about which fics my illustrious readership would like to see get DVD-style commentaries.

The only two to get votes were my angstastic Victorian Richard/Aumerle fics, so I am doing both. Eventually. Here's the first one; you can read the original fic here.

All the wittering is here )

fic: commentaries, au: sweet fortune's minions, fic: shakespeare: richard ii

You know, in one sense I can see why burning to death would appeal to Richard, even though it is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE WAY TO GO, and the death of John Hooper is going to haunt my nightmares. It's as if Richard is burning inside, and for a moment, burning outside and dying physically would be easier than slowly crumbling to ashes mentally and emotionally. It would be a release for him to release the fire that's eating him alive. (Imagine how much pain the poor guy must be in to consider the prospect of burning alive a RELIEF.)

And oh, God, Aumerle. Poor Aumerle. He loves Richard so much...and all Richard has left emotionally are scraps. He does care...but he doesn't care enough. The fire is only embers. He reminds me two devastating lines from a song called "Superboy and the Invisible Girl":

You know I love you--
I love you as much as I can.I mean, OUCH ( ... )

Hee, you do mention me a lot. Also, I appear to be responsible for a great deal of random stuff. ;)

I remember you mentioning a lot of the elements as you were writing the fic, but it's great seeing them all together. You know how much I love this fic -- oh, poor Richard and poor, dear Edward -- and I really enjoyed the opportunity to pick through your thought processes as you wrote it.

YAAAY, I love commentaries! I found this absolutely riveting - it's great to find out MOAR about the process and which bits you like best/what gave trouble, etc. I must have missed the meme for this because clearly I would have voted for...EVERYTHING.

ALSO I LIKE HOW I AM REFERENCED. Dear World, please note that nobody was sick at all in my ficathon story! I AM JUST PRO-REALISM, THAT'S ALL. ;D

And I completely know what you mean about AUs meaning sudden freedom to chuck in different quotations - the second I started writing one it was all DONNE DONNE DONNE too. Yay!
