"I'm sorry."

Aidan's breath sticks in his throat. He coughs around it, resists the urge to pound his fist against his chest.

"What?"

Bishop is standing at the bottom of the steps, looking up towards Aidan's house, eyes flickering across the homey living space curiously before settling back on his fledgling.

"I was wrong," he admits softly, and Aidan's right back at trying not to choke on his own spit.

Was the world ending? The world had to be ending.

"This." Bishop gestures vaguely towards the house. "This is important. This is your--" the hitch in his voice is painfully noticeable, "--family."

Bishop lays a hand against the railing, thumbs the cold metal, considering.

"And I want to be part of it."

"What?"

Aidan doesn't give Bishop the chance to answer that shocked exclamation. The door swings shut, the lock clicking into place.

"Bishop."

"Bishop. He's your vampire-daddy ( ... )

"This is the living room. Oh, and the kitchen is right through there. Did you want to go upstairs? I think Josh keeps his door locked, but I could show you Aidan's room--"

"Sally," Josh says, waving almost frantically. "I think that's enough."

Bishop almost can't help the little half smile that etches itself onto his face in the wake of the ghost's eager demeanor. Josh, the wolf, is a nervous wreck, and Aidan's leaning against the far wall, staring at Bishop like he's almost entirely certain the older vampire will make off with something valuable, like the TV, if he looks away for more than half a second.

It's all very interesting, really.

"It's nice," Bishop says, looking towards Aidan. Certainly nicer than he'd expected. Not anywhere near the opulence of his coven's hideout, but it was... cozy.

He could do without the smell of dog permeating every nook and cranny of the building, but he supposed it was something to get used to ( ... )
