[Hey look, it's this nameless little guy again! Good news, he's not drunk! Where did you spot him?]

[Lirael is checking out the inside of the hospital today, with a mind to maybe start helping out there! And there's Naoshi-- the "nameless" redhead from the library and the drinking and the (she thinks) not liking her-- and she stops short, completely unsure of what to do. Run away? Pretend she didn't see him?]

[Good news number two, Naoshi's not a patient! He's a cook! Someone even dressed him up in an apron and everything as he bustles around behind the counter, making his simple improvised cuisine for the masses, such as they are. He's humming brightly, with his head down over several bowls of rice and diced foodstuffs, and appears to be... rolling handfuls of them together?]

[Since this would be an awfully short ooc-scene if she fled or avoided, Lirael cranes her neck a little, unable to help being a little curious about what he's doing. After all, she's been eating her own cooking-- and not much of it, since she's not really much of a cook-- for a couple weeks now. Maybe whatever he's doing is tastier....]

[It's hard to tell at a distance, but Naoshi appears to be stuffing balls of rice as he rolls them. A stack of finished rice-balls growing on the tray beside him as he works and piles his results there. He's doing it all completely with his hands, but worry not, whoever put him in the apron put a pair of clean surgical gloves on him, too.

He pauses to stand up straight, stretching his back and wiping his forehead with the back of his arm, and spots Lirael over towards the lobby. After a little blink of surprised recognition, he grins and waves cheerfully.] Hallo!

> Shyly wave back without saying anything
> Stammer a reply
> Be completely at a loss
> Flee the hospital

[Startled and feeling guilty that she'd been caught staring, Lirael flushes, ducks her head, glances about from beneath a fringe of hair as if for an exit, and then gives up and stammers,] Ah-- yes. Hello. I'm-- I'm sorry, I just kind of got caught up watching.... [He's not acting like he's still angry with her, anyway. Or embarrassed, even. That's... something, right?]

That's fine, that's fine! [He motions for Lirael to come closer, making no sign that he recalls the whole try-to-carry-home-the-drunk incident. It's like he's rewound completely to his demeanor in the library before the sun went out, all smiles and energy.] You want to watch closer? Maybe try one? For the limited ingredients we have around here, I apparently still make a pretty mean onigiri!

> Go a little closer
> Sit at the counter to watch
> Ask for an explanation of what he's making
> Be utterly bewildered by his reverted demeanor

[Here, have three of those! Lirael takes a step or two closer, still embarrassed but now confused that he was so cheerful, and she looks it. Hadn't he been in the hospital, all torn up and hurt...? He looks awfully happy for an actual patient.] What-- what's an... onigiri?

[Well he's still plenty tore up, as those bandages under his rolled-up sleeves show, and those scratches on the left side of his face are curiously spaced as if made by human fingernails, but whatever injuries remain unhealed clearly aren't slowing him down!

He holds a rice-ball up on display.] Onigiri is the shorthand name for Naoshi's Special Extra Serving Rice Ball, Improvised Island Version! Rice, with a filling! It's really simple but easy to make, and make a lot of, and easy to port to patients. I've got veggie, fish, meat, egg, and could even make a mix to your preference if you like! So, you hungry? As you can see, I've got plenty!

> Politely decline
> Ask to try one of the pre-made onigiri
> Ask for a special-request onigiri
> Remain bewildered and unable to decide

[Since it's been SO CHARTER-BLESSED LONG since she's had decent-tasting food, Lirael can't really resist, even if it feels presumptuous and awkward to ask. Her voice is very soft, though, and she looks a little overwhelmed.] I-- I'll try one... egg, maybe? [Egg sounds good. Since she can't actually cook anything with eggs but hard-boiling them, and she doesn't really even like hard-boiled eggs much, this will be a treat.]

Egg it is! [Naoshi sidesteps over to the loaded tray. He's apparently "marked" each kind of onigiri with a colorful sprinkle of... some kind of foodstuff or another, because he picks a yellow-dusted rice-ball from the array without hesitation and -- oh look at this. He doesn't just hold it out to Lirael, he places it on a suddenly-procured little hospital plate, first, before setting it out on the counter toward her. Presentation, after all!] Please, enjoy!

> Sit at the counter to eat
> Stand at the counter to eat
> Make some excuse to take the plate with you
> Wait for him to not be watching so eagerly

Um. Thank you.... [The eager way he's looking at her is a little unnerving... and while she would love to wait until he looks away, she has the sinking feeling that he won't look away until she's at least tried it. Lirael inches over to the counter-- though she remains standing-- to take the plate hesitantly and set it down on the counter. Hoping fervently that it actually tastes good, she picks it up-- given the lack of offered silverware, she assumes that's how one eats it-- and takes a tentative bite, carefully not looking at him as she does.]

[The filling of an egg onigiri seems to be something akin to scrambled eggs, crumbly yet moist and mixed up with some variety of seasoning, the herb-and-eggy flavor contrasted by the slightly salty rice. It's good food -- Naoshi does know how, and has the talent, to cook simple things well. But the question remains (and the man's expression obviously asks it), is it to Lirael's liking?]

> ...ugh.
> It'll do.
> Yummy!
> SECONDS, PLEASE

[Lirael is pleasantly surprised, and after chewing one bite down, tries another. She isn't sure quite what to say, though, with him looking at her so expectantly. What if what she says isn't good enough for him? She flushes a little again, nervously, and nods her head at him a time or two. Her mouth is still full. That will excuse her from having to make words, right?]

[Is there really any better compliment to a cook than a mouth too busy eating to speak? Probably not! Naoshi grins with pleasure, making a happy un~un! noise along the lines of "as expected!"

And, leaving Lirael to eat, he goes back to his one-man onigiri mass production line, humming that one tune that always comes to mind for some reason.]

> Focus completely on eating
> Go back to watching while you eat
> Make awkward small talk
> Finally get around to asking this weird guy's name

[Since she's kind of hoping for another one, after she finishes the first, Lirael stays where she is while she eats, and watches. At least he didn't expect her to actually reply!]
