Pairing: Changmin/Jaejoong
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Um, lawsuit
Summary: The media gets wind of just another scandal. It was only seven words, but the reaction is huge.
A/N: This is Prompt 58 of the _starcandy challenge. I was inspired by fans' comments as they protested to Jaejoong not being allowed to promote his fabulous song MINE on music shows.
The reaction was enormous, like a tidal wave sweeping over the entertainment industry. It was bigger than Rain’s military service scandals, or the Girl’s Generation uber dubstep song that people hated but loved at the same time. It shouldn’t have been such a big deal; in fact, it shouldn’t have even gotten out. Those seven words -those seven simple words that were meant for the ears of his companion for the evening -how could seven words make such a difference?
But then at five in the morning two SM representatives were banging on his door and demanding he tell them the “meaning of these words” even though he didn’t know what was going. With a wide greasy forehead and idol hair to match his not idol body, the older man thrust out a printed article from online.
TVXQ’S MAX CHANGMIN WANTS TO SEE KIM JAEJOONG PERFORM LIVE! FANS PROTESTING TO SEE KIM JAEJOONG ON MUSIC SHOWS!
Changmin didn’t even have to read the rest of the article to know what it was talking about, or at least what it was referencing.
“Is this true?” The younger representative said. While younger, he wasn’t really any better looking. He wore a suit too loose for his figure and his hair was cropped. Changmin found himself wondering if maybe the other employees at SM were given the same access to stylist like the idols.
A grunt from the older representative brought him out of idle thoughts. “Changmin ssi, please, is this true?”
Changmin quirked an eyebrow and leaned on the doorframe of his and Yunho’s shared apartment. “And what if it is? Is it a crime to want to see a performer perform?” The intimidation act was usually his thing. He just had to glare at someone and act cocky before they backed down and bent to his bidding. It seemed, however, that these two particular SM employees were blind or something because they just returned his glare.
Bad haircut spoke up again, craning his neck around Changmin’s so-not-an-Asian body. “I see the album on that table right there. Changmin ssi, you know the scandals this will -no, has created.”
I wish I could see him perform.
The tall idol gruffly laughed. “What could have possibly happened that I should care about? Have TVXQ been banned from music programs? Are we not allowed to even mention another idol’s name lest our words be raped by the media and antis? What, what do I need to concern myself with at five in the fucking morning?”
Both of them twitched their eyes. Changmin gave up and led them into the living room, and with a pointed look he told them to not mess anything up. The two sat with their thighs touching on the two-seater couch.
Too-small-for-his-clothes spoke up. “Please, Changmin ssi, if we could just go over the statement SM will be releasing soon, we’ll let you get back to sleep soon.”
“I wasn’t asleep.” Changmin said harshly. At first glance it looked like a lie; Changmin was in his sleep clothes and his face was clean of makeup and his hair was a natural bedhead, not a stylish one. However, upon further observations, the two representatives saw a laptop open on the kitchen table with a cup of something steaming next to it. Then they realized that Changmin was wide-awake not because they woke him, but he had never been asleep in the first place.
“Sir,” the younger one started again, but he was cut off by a vicious smirk that only a few have survived from without harm.
“Hyung,” Changmin called out endearingly, but from the look on his face, he was not addressing either of them.
“Yes, Changminnie?” A crackled response rang out.
The two representatives turned horrified to the source of the voice, the question not daring to escape either of their mouths. Changmin only nodded as he stood up and strut over to his laptop. He swiftly turned it around and revealed the pale but beautiful face of the infamous Kim Jaejoong.
“Hyung, do you understand what the problem is? I can’t seem to understand it clearly.” Changmin passed his smirk on to Jaejoong, and the two looked positively evil together.
“Minnie, I think the media is promoting my album the only way they know how -through SM scandals.” The large eyes did nothing to mask the bitterness within in him.
Changmin’s equally bitter eyes glared the two men in distaste. “Jaejoong hyung and I resolved our issues awhile ago, just like JYJ and SM were supposed to have.” The tall male pulled on his chair and sat down, stretching his long legs out before crossing them. “Let SM release some bullshit statement, I don’t care. But if anyone asks, I will say I was talking about the Kim Jaejoong and I was expressing a desire to see him live.”
“But, sir!” Too-small-for-his-clothes stammered. “Fans are demanding that he be allowed to perform on TV!”
In perfect unison, Changmin and Jaejoong barked out a “Good!” And Changmin nodded his head towards the door.
The two men couldn’t have gotten out of the apartment fast enough. Sadly, the entire morning had been ruined. Changmin sighed and shook his head, looking at his cooling coffee before deciding to just chuck the rest of it in the sink.
“Minnie,” Jaejoong whispered, and now that his face was not contorted with anger and filling up the whole screen, Changmin could see how tired the other male was. He was only dressed in a black wife beater and hadn't paid any attention to how it did not match his leopard sweatpants. The tall male’s heart wrenched.
“Shh, Jaejoong, it’s about time they stop picking fights where they don’t need to. I’m serious. If I could move on, so should they.”
“Thanks,” Jaejoong barely let out. “I miss you.”
Changmin smiled, melting years of smoking off Jaejoong’s face, “I miss you too.”
TVXQ’S MAX CHANGMIN WANTS TO SEE KIM JAEJOONG PERFORM LIVE! FANS PROTESTING TO SEE KIM JAEJOONG ON MUSIC SHOWS!
A recording of TVXQ’s Choikang Changmin has been leaked. In the recording Changmin clearly states “I wish I could see him perform,” while holding an album that witnesses say to be the new mini-album just released by former TVXQ member, Kim Jaejoong.
While Changmin could have been speaking about anything, the speculation is that he was referring to how broadcast companies such as KBS have not allowed JYJ to perform on any of their stages. In 2012, fellow JYJ bandmate, Kim Junsu, released his own album and was not allowed to perform on shows like Inkigayo or Mnet Countdown. In 2011, when JYJ released their first Korean album, they were denied television appearances then as well.
As the lawsuit between JYJ and SM is over, fans are expecting to see more activities from JYJ broadcasted on television. While Changmin might have been making an innocent comment, fans are now demanding that these broadcast limits be lifted. Fans are threatening to boycott the stations and have already started petitioning the companies.
Further rumors speculate that Changmin was talking about seeing Kim Jaejoong live in concert, as he is having two days of concert to celebrate his mini-album and his birthday with his fans. Other rumors have fans asking whether JYJ and TVXQ members are on friendly terms again.
