Of course, Yongguk couldn’t just call it Model Z for the rest of his life, so he had to give it a name. He first started calling him Zelo that night over dinner. It amazed him how well Zelo could eat, perfectly imitating a growing young boy. He chewed and swallowed quietly, making careful use of his wet tongue. Yongguk shook his head, getting rid of the image of him biting his tongue off. They finished their meal just like that.

By nighttime Zelo still hadn’t said anything. Yongguk was beginning to wonder if he even had vocal cords. Perhaps his voice would come out digitalized like a computer, or broken like the words had been prerecorded. He ran scenarios through his head, calculating what would get him the best response out of the boy. Not yes or no questions and not something the boy could shrug off. Maybe a statement? No, he could use body language instead.

“Zelo, tell me what you would like to do.” Yongguk sat expectantly, sure the robot-boy would reply with a crick in his shoulders or a tilt of his prosthetic neck. He did nothing, no blink, no shake, no whimper, nothing. “Well if you don’t do anything, I’ll remember you’re not really alive.” Yongguk pushed his chair out and let is squeak across the tile floor, Zelo wouldn’t mind anyway. His pace to the boy was steady, and the hand that gripped his shoulder was firm.

The robot did not react.

“I’m beginning to suspect that you require some sort of instigation before you really start functioning properly. What could it be?” It annoyed him more than it should have, how glassy his eyes were once he’d eaten all his cherry tomatoes, and how Zelo’s personality was nothing like he had desired. Yongguk whispered into Zelo’s ears with his deep hardened voice, tempting him with all the things he could have from Yongguk’s estate, and still Model Z remained motionless.

“Fine then, we’ll just prepare to retire for the night and enjoy some television for awhile.” He left to room knowing that Zelo would follow. In an odd way, he was happy that part of him showed. He hated people that could not follow his commands or understand what he wanted the most. He had decided that if Zelo couldn’t act properly, he’d treat him like al the other models, even if he only looked fifteen.

The kid absolutely loved the bath, loved meaning he sat there motionless while the butler explained to him what shampoo was. Yongguk stood to the side watching, trying to understand himself better. He knew he had craved for a younger companion, but he couldn’t exactly place why considering he hated children. Fifteen might not be a complete child, but it certainly wasn’t the age he had first thought of.

Yongguk continued to stare at Zelo’s naked form, pondering life and shit, when he noticed the hairline crack going around his back. He would have missed it if the water hadn’t gotten started attaching itself to the lines like water molecules do. His fingers glided over the soft skin, searching for a way to pop this section off, when he pushed down in the center where his spine should have been. Zelo’s back released it’s hold and revealed a screen.

Please set your password to start up Model Z.

Password? Did he have to set it or was there already a preprogrammed word? Just to test it out, he entered in CherryTomatoes and pressed enter. He noticed the changes immediately.

Zelo turned to him and smiled softly, then smirked. “I’m am Model Z, or as you call me, Zelo. My skills are dancing and rapping, and I am adorable but tough. I might be young, but I will follow your every command. So please buy me some cherry tomatoes.”

Ah, of course, Yongguk’s match was a younger child because he wanted to control him and still feel in the right.
