Castles

“Built to withstand the fearsome armies of other fandoms, the Cassiopeia Castle remains standing even after a hundred years,” the tour guide explained as the bus drew to a stop near the castle walls.

Please remain seated until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Thank you and enjoy the tour.

“The Sherlock fandom tried invading once by using the secret passages under the castle. Cassies were unaware of the attack until men and women in their twenties started bursting out of the kitchen shouting ‘Benedict for King,’ all sporting deer hunting caps. The fandom battle ended quickly when the five Kings of the castle converted the fans. The day remains historical.” Photographers started to arm themselves with their best cameras, families armed themselves with the best point-and-shoots.

The walking tour will last for forty-five minutes. Please do not leave anything behind. Dong Bang tours is happy to serve you…

The bus doors finally opened up to allow a stream of happy tourists out to see a great Korean Monument. The tour guide, an older woman in her fifties, lined up the sight seers and counted heads, making everyone was off the bus. She handed out red glowsticks to every group.

“Red represented the power of the fandom, and remains the national color even though nobody lives in the castle anymore. The glowsticks were common methods of lighting up rooms and hallways. Use these to replicate how things were back then.” Then the woman demonstrated how to break the glowsticks and make them glimmer. “Many other fandoms used glowsticks to show their team spirit, but only DBSK managed to unite so many with them.”

Finally, the tour guide brought the group up to the entrance of the castle. Children in the group jumped around, excitedly gleaming at all the different statues. One small child with slit almond eyes pointed to a sheep statue. “What is that?”

The tour guide waved her glowstick in the direction the child point to. “Oh? That is one of the sheep protectors, one of the five animal statues that guard the walls of the castle. The sheep was King Junsu’s familiar. Each of the Kings had one. A deer for King Changmin, a rabbit for King Yoochun, tiger for King Yunho, and lion for King Jaejoong.” The children were left in awe of the statues, each one decorated in flowers left by traveling Cassies.

Coming up to the drawbridge, the guide let everyone take a quick break and snap some photos of the surrounding area. The castle featured a mix between European architecture and Japanese garden ponds. The writing on the castle walls remained in the Korean from the previous century. After the break ended, the tour continued into the castle itself.

The walls were covered in photos dating back to the ancient 2003 where five young boys dressed in young Prince’s tunics and strapping leather pants. Each Prince had distinctive features of different eyes shapes and hairstyles. Some photos showed the future Kings with other men, large groups of men. “Some tourists come to see pictures of the King’s allies and fangirl, and we at Dong Bang tours have to constantly remind them that it is inappropriate conduct. I have a particularly difficult time managing the E.L.F.s that came only because their castle fell down many decades ago and the only lasting evidence of their fandom is stored here.”

Lining the bottom of the walls was a pattern of five stars forming a W shape. The tour guide pamphlet explained the W is what the castle is named from, the constellation a great representation of the DBSK legacy. One of the children gasped as a kitten emerged from a flap in the wall, hiding one of the W’s momentarily. “Kitty,” the child squealed with joy, making a snatch at the kitten’s tail.

“Please do not grab the animals here at Cassiopeia castle; they are the descendants of the King’s pets. This kitten is one of King Junsu’s cats, Leo’s, relatives. There will be many others roaming the castle, so please do not disturb them unless they initiate the action.” However, the guide’s words were lost as the kitten rubbed up against the child and demanded his attention. Love me, feed me, pet me, the kitten’s purrs meant.

A young female reporter accompanied by a sloppy photographer noted the timeline of photos, the clear fandom hints from the ceiling to the rugs, to the stone walls with song lyrics engraved in them. “Excuse me, Ma’am, did any of the Kings marry?” The tour guide answered with a quick laugh and a shake of the head.

“Sadly, no, they had no wives. Their fans were much too protective. Many said they’d support their relationships, but the few they had were too scandalous in their opinion and ended flatly. However, King Jaejoong and King Yoochun managed to sire heirs at one point. Many fans approved only because King Jaejoong’s family had desired an heir since the man became King.” The members of the tour chuckled, noting how crazy the citizens of the castle had been so many years ago.

As the tour continued, that one reporter knew they had to unravel the mysteries of Cassiopeia Castle. When the tour led into the first bed chamber she thought a brilliant question. “Did the Kings always sleep separately, or were there some shared beds at any time?” She received another girlish giggle.

“The Kings did share beds, but it was up to the citizens of the castle on whether or not they actually slept at night. King Junsu and King Jaejoong were infamous for being found in a bed not their own once the rising sun showed. There was one incident where both were found in King Changmin’s bed with said King lying shivering on the floor.” The bed in the room looked hardly used, must have been Jaejoong’s room then.

After passing by the kitchen, evidently King Changmin’s favorite room, the reporter noted the twelfth tapestry with the letters AKTF stitched into it. “What does -”

“As you will note, AKTF is short for ‘Always Keep the Faith,’ the slogan of Cassiopeia castle. It was such an important saying, King Yoochun and King Jaejoong tattooed the words onto their flesh, among other things I might add.” The photographer with the reporter did note this, snapping a picture of the two Kings without shirts.

The tour guide led the group through more winding twists of hallways where they met more descendants of some pet and saw more photos of some event. In one room the walls were filled from top to bottom with alleged cellphone pics from King Jaejoong. The tour concluded at the burial hall.

“The hall is closed all year except on TVXQ day where a memorial ceremony is held annually by the nomadic Cassies. The ashes of the five Kings rest here and keep the spirit of the castle alive. While many other fandom castles fell once their leaders waged war on one another of died off, Cassiopeia Castle managed to thrive for many more years until the recent law called for all the shut-ins to vacate the area.” The guide smiled, enjoying a memory from her earlier years. “I used to live here before the law was passed. I couldn’t bear to leave. Once a Cassie always a Cassie.”
