I just sent a very unhappy letter to an old friend of this blog. Some of you may recall the talented work of Lauren Peralta. Well, now, ALL of her work, old and new, is arbitrarily "restricted" by Lauren's own decision ( Read more... )

It is Flickr's ownership by Yahoo who is looking to be bought that is the root of the trouble. (Yes I owe you a message... not sure if tonight or tomorrow)

As I understand it, it's not just a matter of "surrendering" to censorship... there's very real legal ramifications for the artists as well. As a professional photographer myself I can't say as though I agree with all the policies (in part why I don't use Flickr) but I do understand the source of those policies, and the necessity of having them there.

I received an impressive reply to my letter, with Lauren rejecting my suggestion that she had "surrendered" (admittedly, a strong word that I could have softened...) to Flickr's intimidation ( ... )
