Jill Clayburgh -- a reflection

I recalled Jill this afternoon, reading her obit -- she died so young! One of the comments on it (by someone with the nick, "4ward") was "...Will never forget her carefree faux ballet dance in her panties in 'An Unmarried Woman ( Read more... )

My first view of a woman in panties (ok bra and panties) was Goldie Hawn in Butterflies are Free.

Ah Lost in Translation, a young protege of mine thought that that movies was actually our story. Interestingly enough, she looked a lot like Scarlett before her surgery, and I suppose Bill Murray and I are both old.

In fact, it seemed to me Sophia was under the influence of Nabokov in that film. (I recently read that N had been embarrassed by people thinking Lolita autobiographical...though why WOULDN'T people "of a certain age" fantasize about randy young girls?)

And I adored finding those reports about her showing Scarlett how she'd look in those pink panties!

Bob --

I was delighted to see, in the "in memorium" segment of last night's SAG awards, they used a bit of this footage to commemorate Jill's passing.

Scarlett's Panties devifemme November 6 2010, 22:37:33 UTC
I really DIDN'T want Scarlett to take over Jill's obituary, but I found so many good bits on Google, including a wild "Esquire" article:

"RIGHT ABOUT NOW, Scarlett Johansson is supposed to be surveying the history of dildos with me... at Hollywood's Erotic Museum, which... she's long wanted to visit. But the only person who'd ever offered to go with her -- till today, at least -- was her dad, and that would have been creepy.

"So, thinking myself chivalrous and only marginally creepy, I'd extended an invitation, she'd accepted...Just the idea of looking at sexual artifacts with Scarlett would take the curl out of most men's mustaches; hell, if those artifacts included the translucent pink panties she wore for the opening shot of Lost in Translation, they'd never need straightening again..."
