It irritates me, too, but I'm used to it.

Oh, Sonja, so young and SO jaded!

It's okay -- as long as YOU don't do it while WE are having lunch together!

Hugs, Justine

It's irritating and downright rude. Yes, I do get upset. Either talk to me or take the cell phone and leave.

Oh, Jackie, so young, and SO inflexible!

It's okay -- and I'll definitely talk to you, even with my mouth full. (Straining the etiquette, perhaps...)

Hugs, Justine

That's why I have a ring tone that I can hear and it set on vibrate so I am less likely to miss a call or text if I do get one. If I'm checking my phone it's because it has since replaced having a watch to tell them time. I was taught even checking your watch when chatting to people can be a sign of rudeness so I don't do that.

Oh, Cobra, you're a guy -- so it's not likely I'd be at lunch with you.

But, were I to do so, perhaps I'd risk that old line, "is that a cellphone in your pocket, or are you glad to see me?"

Heh!

Hugs, Justine

I get the feeling that you didn't know the old joke -- "is that a banana in your pocket, or..."

I so agree! Just because everybody has a mobile and can be reached anywhere doesn't mean that they have to - if you're somewhere like a restaurant etc, turn the freaking thing off. Unless you are waiting for something really important in whcih care you apologise for it at the beginning (Sorry, someone might call me bla bla...)
Stupid mobiles... :)
