Conservative rejects Trump -- then gets sucked back into the GOP morass

Last week, I read with interest the new book by Sen. Jeff Flake (he of the truly unfortunate family-name!), "Conscience of a Conservative." It is far better written and more thoughtful than any screed by a Republican in my experience ( Read more... )

I threatened to put more about Flake here in the comments. But I also decided to use tags, which I haven't done recently -- particularly since I've focussed (TOO much, I fear) on The Donald in the past year.

For those new here, let me explain that I play a little game with tags. See, 8-10 years ago I had run up a list of hundreds, THEN LJ started charging for them, so I quit. But 2 years qgo I discovered that ALL the old tags remained acessible -- and, to me, a good reason to look around among my old posts.

So, what I do, after writing a post, is to open the tags list and pick out 3 or 4 seemingly relevant tags. Thus, you guys can brouse among my ancient posts if the spirit moves you.

VERY occasionally, I'll linger on the list -- and find dozens of connections -- as I did here. Feel free to ignore them...

About "conservatism " Flake is trenchant in disqualifying Trump -- and most of those who give him more support in Congress than he deserves -- from being classic rightwingers. (On the other hand, both Saturday morning -- voting for the Senate tax outrage -- and today, he seems to have caved to pressures from the White House ( ... )
