More about Trumpsky and Congress

Apr 22, 2017 13:05

Ryan Lizza, on the New Yorker's Website, today quotes an unnamed White House personage to the effect that Trumpsky is "excited" about threats to shut down the USG a week from today! Holy shit! What insane assholes ( Read more... )

If Americans are only that dumb to be fooled by that trap...
What's going on in politics meanwhile is a business of a whole class that lives seperated and isolated from the rest of the country, and they only come up every few years with a big show that shall pretend to anyone that they can be elected. But in reality, the dices have already been rolled. The outcome of these "elections" is already settled.
Only an intervention from inside this isolated class, e. g. when one wants to get rid of another person threatening his business, really makes change suddenly out of nowhere (while otherwise usally things stay the same over years).

In that way, America, as well as the whole rest of mankind is doomed...

Aw, Tati, don't be all sad, simply because the US has gone effectively nuts! We've just about resigned ourselves to a huge impeachment fight, probably by next fall. Meanwhile, our courts and the press are proving their mettle and undercutting Trumpsky's worst impulses...

Well, the threat of shutdown seems to be diminishing, and Obamacare hasn't been wiped out, so things are looking up a bit. Trump still wants a wall, but given that attempted border crossing has dropped over 75% during the time he has been in office, I can't see it being a big vote winner for him or the GOP. "I'm gonna build a wall. It'll cost $70 Billion. You're paying it for it, taxpayers!"

Hi, Gary -- yeah, when I foresaw the whole looming Obamacare Redux, with the tax-cut for millionaires AND the need for Congress to vote the "continuing resolution" (the budget imbroglio), it looked like "the perfect storm." And, as we now know, nothing happened...even the CR was simply extended a fucking week!

There WAS some good comedy on the subject of Trumpsky, including the downgraded WH Correspondents Assoc. banquet featuring Hassan Minaj. Then there was the COMPETING "Not the WH Correspondents..." event of our best current political comedienne, Samantha Bee (both are late of Jon Stewart's Daily Show). Many good laughs were had at both Saturday-night events. You perhaps saw outtakes there in the UK?

I certainly did. Very, very good, although I have to say that at the moment a lot of the news coverage in the UK is geared towards the forthcoming election. It's not really about who will win, but by how much. The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is still massively unpopular. and even with a small creep in popularity towards the Labour Party amongst voters, it still looks like a Conservative rout.
