Well, he was married and therefore off limits ... and she was a good Irish Catholic girl.

I always liked her. No matter what character she played, whether she was kidnapped, held hostage, or just the girl next door, she was strong, intelligent, and classy. She and the Duke were TNT and napalm on the screen and fit so well together -- even when they were fighting. My favorites are THE QUIET MAN and McCLINTOCK!

I agree. Especially The Quiet Man. That's also one of my favorite Tom Cruise movies. His rip off of TQM.

Hmmm, "His rip off of TQM" (Turner Classics??) -- not sure what you meant about Tom Cruise.

I think Far and Away? Basically the exact same plot as The Quiet Man. Wasn't a bad movie, for what it was. He and Nicole Kidman had spark back in the day, she even reminded me of her, though he's never been John Wayne.

Oh definitely THE QUIET MAN and McCLINTOCK. She managed to be both a darned good actress and an absolute knockout. I remember reading her autobiography, and I seem to recall that she had been told by the studios that she was the woman who they used to show off Technicolour film (all that red hair!)

She did much better films than AGAINST ALL FLAGS or SONS OF THE MUSKETEERS, but I do have a soft spot for her roles as 'Spitfire' Stevens or Claire-daughter of Athos. Actually, I love all of those films from the '40s and '50s where she's clad in knee-length leather boots and running blokes through with a sword. She was undoubtedly the Queen of the Swashbucklers.

Indeed, I read of her swashbuckling in her Wiki bio; alas, I never saw any of those films -- just Quiet Man and something else with the Duke, set in the South Pacific.
