David Brooks and "Truthiness"

The other day I posted from the NYTimes op-ed column by David Brooks; it concerned how badly the U.S. churches had been hurt by their opposing liberal reforms of social/sexual policies of state and Federal governments. Anne Coulter, Rush Limbaugh. They don't 'get facts wrong', they are not 'journalists'. They are pundits and shock-jocks. Paladins for the Right. No lie, no act, no statement is too heinous to support their agenda. It's not about truth. It's not even intended to be. Other than...to fool the bottom level, poorest, most ignorant republicans. It's...like the bible. It doesn't have to be true to be something people will fight to 'prove' their beliefs in. Republican/conservatism are...religions not politics.

Well, you're correct, of course. I'm just upset that someone I really respected seems to pay little attention to facts. Not that I've always been truthful -- but I'm not a public personage. Anyway, I'm not sure I can watch Brooks tomorrow in his usual Friday PBS slot...

Awww -- just grateful that you alerted me to Brooks' journo "feet of clay"... I'm still waiting for the "other shoe to drop" and Brooks himself to join the fray. (Rhyme truly unintented...)
