I can't really see what point they are trying to make by opposing it! If Texas refuses to enter the 21st century, most of the rest of the country look happy to. They seem to think that they are fighting some brave rearguard action by refusing to countenance same-sex marriage, but it just comes across as silly. I keep thinking of that bit from the film version of INHERIT THE WIND, where the heads of the town slowly realise that even if they win the case they will lose because of the bad press that it will bring to the town. At some point they will have to change, so why not grit their teeth and do it now?
And that "do it now" idea could NOT be better exemplified than by the way marriage equality has caught on in the western world. (And wouldn't it be wonderful if we could say that about Islamic and African nations as well?!)
But Texas is cussed enough to resist what the rest of us accept with equanamity...
