I've actually seen people responding to posts about depression with comments like "When you start feeling depressed, you simply have to try and think good thoughts'. They are well intentioned, but it does bring up exactly how little many people know about depression. About 7% of the adult population suffer from depression at any one time, but the public still seem to know very little about it.
Sadly true: and, worse, there are a variety of effective meds out there -- but some people think it's a sign of moral weakness to take them. Others fret about costs and/or side effects -- but, for me and millions of other sufferers, balancing one's seratonin levels is such a simple, no-nonsense thing that NOT doing it is just so stupid.
I just read your interesting post about all your activities, including when you do your final semester, what plays and other performing you're doing, "the Art of the Orgasm" (or whatever -- goddess, I ought to hear that lecture, tough I'm doing well in that department these days!), and everything else.
But depression as the "background music" to your life -- dammit, that's hard. Are you on meds now? Or is it otherwise well controlled? (By which I suppose I mean, "with professional help" -- but, really, if its a chemical problem, there could be a chemical remedy...)
If you want to talk more about it, just send me an LJ "message" -- they're private, and I try to be discreet.
