Joining Twitter?

Apr 19, 2014 16:39

One of my LJ/Tumblr friends puts up her Twitter posts on her LJ, and over the weeks she's seriously tempted me to join. I was aware what a black-hole it could become, time-wise, and I asked her about it. She just replied that it was worse than Tumblr ( Read more... )

Yes, that is what worries me!

But, as I wrote, the damned Tweets I've noticed seem so "engaged"... there's a certain dynamism...

No way would I get interested in FB! Nor other social "engines" out there -- except for Word Press, which seems a bit similar to Twitter, but without the 140-characters (or whatever the message limit IS!) rule. Moreover, I admit that limit is similar to restrictions built into Tumblr's "Ask" gizmo -- and THEY annoy me no end!

Meh, I probably won't join...

I do not see why. I have a twitter account but mostly for activism. It is a great way of sharing "tweets"/information.

Dear Suze --

You are a better a person than me, Suze! You're such an activist, a truly positive person. Me, I tend to coast through so much, NOT actively helping with good causes (other than donating to charities Joanne tracks...)!

Frankly, I don't even HAVE a good reason to be in Twitter. (Sorry, I'm in a bit of a funk...)

I did just read through your most recent posts; was sorry to hear of new symptoms.

I hope you had a lovely Easter. We had great weather and a nice day, church (Joanne's) and dinner with acquaintances of a good friend.

Hugz, Justine

I was sick. *blech* But now I am better regaining my strength. I am glad you had a good easter. I am so sorry I am late in replying. I really have been that sick. And just regaining my energy is work now. But it is coming back.

Oh, I'm so sorry, sweetie -- I didn't realize that your miseries continued for more than a week! But I am glad you're better now. Hope you get fully recovered SOON!

Kisses, J

Amazing to think that we have to consider what (anti-social)-social vices we want to focus on. Bravo for recognizing that you have limit time to support them and actively choose which ones are for you. I suspect most of us just end up wasting time on the most addictive ones, whether that be for activism, humor, current events, procrastination or a combination of all of the above.

Selfishly speaking, I like you here. It may be fun chasing you around in person, but it's nice to know where to find you online. :P

I take that as a great compliment, sir (note, NO capital-s), but am compelled to reject the idea of being chased by a male. In fact, I take comfort in you having the terrific girlfriend -- whom I'd love to meet sometime! (Hint, hint!). I promise not to make a pass at her -- unless she makes one at me, first...

Haha... Cute. I promise to leave all "chasing" to the gals. As far as making a pass at my lady - swallow that promise and never speak of it again! You are always welcome to make a pass at her... who knows... maybe you'll both get lucky. ;)

Thank you most kindly, sir. You ARE the proverbial "gentleman and scholar" -- and pretty damned cool, to boot!

Tweet if you must -- personally there is no way I will ever go there myself -- but please do not start posting your Twitter posts on LiveJournal. A former LJ friend or two used to do that, and I basically had to either "hide" them from my friends list or drop them completely. I just found it way too annoying to read little 140-character snippets of random stuff that didn't add up to anything coherent.

Thanks, Anais -- yours is the deciding voice, since I was heading in your direction already. LJ friends are worth my more or less exclusive attention. I'll possibly reduce my reposts from Tumblr, too.

Not that I'm always coherent, even without the fuss of Twitter...

Hee! You are coherent enough for normal purposes!
