I do quite enjoy that delicious language, which lends itself to song lyrics -- and to erotic poetry! (I recommend Vinicius de Moraes, a brilliant romantic poet -- who, incidentally, did the lyrics [both Portuguese and English] to The Girl from Ipanema.)
I spoke it moderately well for 5 years, but Italian and Spanish (both of which I still use professionally) have undercut my speaking ability.

He was married eight times according to wikipedia. Based on some of his poetry, I would suspect that he had chat up lines that would leave the usual 'Hi! Do you come here often?' for dead...
Vinicius (bits of Latin survive in Portuguese -- always wanted to dig into that linguistic puzzle...) had the most fascinating life. He was a career Brazilian diplomat at the time of the military coup in the 60s -- was booted out and came to be a symbol of opposition to the military junta. Meanwhile, as you noted, going through wives one after another.
