Sexy model -- Camille Rowe

I just reblogged a half-dozen poses by a French photographer of a lovely model whom I don't recall seeing previously. I suspect my fashionista friend Karen will tell me that she's trod every runway from Milan to Montreal. Here are two: one almost pains me to offer to you busy readers because she's wearing the WORST shoes I have ever seen on a model ( Read more... )

My goodness, she is gorgeous! I googled her name after reading this post, and there appear to be several trillion different pictures of her floating around on the net (as one would expect). Lots of fashion shoots, but also what appear to be informal snaps taken of her, where she looks just as good. It doesn't surprise me that she looks great wearing stuff that normal people might wear when going to the shops. However, you are very right about the shoes. I mean, I'm no fashion expert, but they do seem to be the epitome of 'sensible' shoes. They resemble the boots worn by Lotte Lenya in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (the ones with the poison daggers concealed in the front).

Hmmm, wonder what ever became of Miss Lenya? A long strange trip from Weill/Brecht to "Bond... James Bond."

So I googled. Born in 1898 (!), she lived another 18 years after Russia With Love, passing at the ripe old age of 83. Best thing I saw in Wiki: "...She was present in the studio when Louis Armstrong recorded Brecht-Weill's 'Mack the Knife'. Armstrong improvised the line 'Look out for Miss Lotte Lenya!'..." OMG -- to have "improvised" that line -- there WERE giants in those days!

I'm impressed with your own dedicated research, Gary -- Camille DOES seem a phenomenon herself (maybe not quite up to Lotte's standards -- though we won't know about Camille's "durability" for another half-century...).

'there WERE giants in those days!" Indeed there were. I remember reading John Barry talking about working with Armstrong for the song 'We have all the time in the world'. Armstrong had been in and out of hospital for a year before recording the song, and only had a few years to live. He was too ill to even play his trumpet, but he sang it beautifully in only a few takes. Afterwards, Barry found himself fighting back the tears when the the singer (who was one of his musical idols) thanked him for hiring him to sing the song.

I knew someone who attended a Sci-fi convention where Vladek Sheybal was being interviewed. Sheybal was in several scenes with Lenya in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. Someone asked him what she was like in real life. He said that she was sweet but very, very nervous. She'd not done much movie work, and he what he chiefly remembered was that before every take she would grab his arm and whisper "Vladek, where's the camera? What have they done with the camera?"

Hmmm, she really DIDN'T know where it was, or she wasn't sure which one might be focused in her? I'd think an actor would assume the camera would find HER -- do the scene, with the blocking, leave the rest to the cinematographer!

The Barry story is great. Armstrong was such a huge persona...
