Thanks, Justine. Yes, my Piper Moda empire keeps growing at a fairly quick and precarious rate. This 4th one is in a UK sim, next door to a UK Kylie fan's shop (where my Spinning Around costume came from) and opposite a superhero costume shop. The other side of my shop is empty, so I've got my eye on that.

I've been receiving commission work from people wanting swimsuits and bikinis, so my non-swimwear stock hasn't expanded much lately. I have struck a deal to stock some gorgeous earrings and maybe shoes too in my little boutiques. Although feedback is wonderful, actual customers are still few and far between :-/ I shall persevere though. I may need to get a little more technical, branch out further and network slightly more.

Kisses, x K

I'm sure the "universe" of potential buyers is actually small, compared to RL business enterprises. Word-of-mouth is pretty limited, too.

Whenever I'm in-world, there are usually around 35,000 players playing at the same time, so I guess the over all user base is a fair bit larger - maybe nearer to 150,000? Assuming the gender split of about 75:25 that there is in SL(!), and ruling out those that are 'tinies' (very little people like fairies or chipmunks or whatever), I estimate my potential customer base to be around 100,000 people. There are obviously tons of shops, but already, I think I've seen the main 10 or so chains that gobble up almost all the clothing market between them. Becoming the 'swimwear' one of the 'big 10' is my aim.

Fascinating -- you've researched the market size, in addition to design and competition aspects...

Which is to say SL seems as complex and multi-layered as RL (and then you have the chipmunks!).

Justine, there's a little news update. I opened a 5th shop a few days ago and closed the 1st one down, so I still have 4, but the newest one is the biggest and classiest. Coincidentally, your friend, Becca from London, returned to SL, met up with me and sat chatting about Kylie with me while I decorated the 5th shop. Amazingly, she also modelled superhero costumes for Abby's shop, located opposite my shop you pictured here. Becca's been to a Kylie concert a few years back. Lucky thing!
