We went to see "Gravity" last night. It was terrific! Sandra Bullock* and George Clooney were believable as "...two astronauts having an especially bad day in space," as the LA Times summed it up ( Read more... )

I heard the ending left an opening for a sequel. I'd like to see this. It sounds pretty good. And though I don't like (and never will) like George Clooney, I do like Sandra.

Yeah, I can see them moving toward a sequel (but I doubt George will return -- so you'll be pleased!).

not sure if it's worth to see on a big screen..I had a weakness for Sandra (surprisingly not so much for GC) but in the last years there is no movie with SB I'd call amazing..I¨ll check this one and probably wait till it will be released in our TV :)

Because I'm still getting to know you, I won't push to yo see it on The Big Screen (though I didn' mention we saw the 3D version -- and, unless you can access a 3D TV, it's a pity to miss that version).

The complete multi-tasker, huh, Renata?

Actually, I'm hearing the 3D televisions aren't catching on, in the US at least. At least one cable channel has shut down its 3D transmissions. Not a problem for me -- HD (high-definition) is more than sufficient to enhance the TV experience.

I saw the trailer for this when I went to see RUSH. It does look good, although I suspect that I might have to give the 3D a miss. They showed the scene where the debris hits the shuttle, and when Sandra Bullock started whirling round in circles I started feeling 'space sick', so I can only imagine what it looks like in 3D! I've always had an interest in real-life space exploration, and this looks very much on the realistic side of SF. The trailer looked absolutely incredible, and now that people can watch genuine footage from space it has to look good in order to convince. I think that Sandra Bullock was probably the right choice for the role. People admire or lust after Angelina Jolie, but they like Bullock. She feels like the sort of person who might be your neighbour or your workmate. Or, to put it more crudely, you can imagine Sandra Bullock farting, but not Angelina Jolie.

Obviously you haven't spent enough time around Angelina...

Actually, you're right: Bullock is the better choice here. Though there IS a scene in which she gets out of her space-suit, albeit wearing a sports bra and shorts -- cool with Sandra but it would have been explosive with Angi!

(Of course the authenticity-freaks lamented in the press, saying that wasn't real astro-garb (which evidently includes "diapers" for the obvious reason...eew, TMI!)

It's the first 3D version of a film I've ponied up the extra fare to see in the past couple of years -- and it WAS marvelous...
