I've heard it said that about 30% are not the gender they purport to be in SL. Imagine that. I've noticed myself when I go to a dance club, the population is split about 80:20 female:male, which seems surprising as geeky blokes are surely more likely to play such a technical game than women who probably have a real life. It actually makes me laugh when I talk to a beautiful girl in SL and she immediately goes on about graphics card speeds and drivers, then when I mention shoes, they glaze over. They're only trans in the most superficial sense. Interesting to see though and unlike some people I've met, I do my best not to 'out' them, smile and leave them be.
Hi, sweetie -- didn't really write that to any particular purpose, just mildly surprised that Marian was straightforward about it. And, of course, you're right that it's going to be guys who "do" the tech-stuff well, then "test out" their gender possibilities in SL -- but then blow it because they're not into girlie-stuff. And Marian DID come off as quite feminine. (Albeit in an American idiom -- "country gurl" and jeans...) You're also right in not wanting to out them, but she pretty much outed herself, in her Flickr profile...
You know, I've thought about why in heck I wrote the comment I did, seeming to make light of Miriam's honesty. So I went back to her Flickr and looked around, thinking I'd ask her permission to do a couple more of her erotic creations. Well, first discovery: she has some kick-ass SL girls whom I hadn't seen.
On the other hand, I also found a great (and bloggable!) picture of Miriam's -- featuring a sexy sports car! OMG, she is another auto-freak like us, Karen! so I'm going to post it tonight!
Hi folks, The RL side of me is male, liking to 'dress', my SL persona is actually TV - - no big boobs here! LOL The little 'lady' featured here is 'Ann Marie' (Wildcat4 Resident), and is actually Marian's sister (alt). Yes, she is a submissive, unowned, loves to have fun. :) 'Her' profile clearly states her gender simply because the RL person behind her virtual self likes to be as honest as possible in Second Life with those around. It avoids controversy and arguments if one is honest. :) I agree fully with the posts regarding the breakdown of gender personas in the virtual world, and I am not a fan of people who play the opposite genders without being up front about it. On the other hand, I fully admire those who make known the truth, and will engage with them openly. :) Honesty, in the Virtual World just like in the Real World, is the best policy. :) By the way, which IS the 'real' world??? :) LOL xxxxx Marian
Thank you -- it's lovely to hear from you, and I'm glad you read the many comments on your SL creations. I'd like to post more of your work. and will return to your Flickr soon.
