I see what you mean, but on the other hand then the POC room loses the buffer again - it seems like one of the big problems they encountered was people who were curious/demanded information from them, as if they were the best sources of good information. For example, this year there were several resources away from the safe room (Cultural Appropriation 101 on Friday, Allies Meeting on Saturday, etc) and the safe room still got gawkers/interlopers/unwelcome folk.

Do you think there would be a way to keep the discussion space from getting too heated? It couldn't be set up to remove any risk of that, but maybe if it were made clear that it was a place for people who wanted to learn, not who wanted to "be right?" Are there rules/policies that could be posted that would help it work?

Thanks for commenting. I guess I wasn't aware of the fact that the parties were scheduled. I can understand how that mistake could be made, and I admire how well the concom seems to be responding. While I still kind of like the idea that Victor and I had, I'm sure that you all will make a good decision about how to address and respond to the incidents at this year's con. Please know that I and many people I've talked to are willing to help if we can, and that we won't do so without being asked.
