One of my not-so-pet peeves is when people present science and art as being somehow at war with one another, especially when the implication is that science does not involve creativity and imagination, or that art is not a useful way of making sense of our world ( Read more... )

Hah, yes, I was actually thinking of Feynman and how his scientific creativity extended to so many other aspects of life (and how he played the drums!). Also Da Vinci with his designs for flying machines, etc.

not that i write, but i definitely feel patterns are there underneathe the surface, waiting to be revealed. the physical world and the etheral world are intertwined; every physical law is reflected in our imagination, and vice-versa. it's very like a mirror, and thoughts/actions ripple back and forth.

Madeleine L'Engle's books often showed characters who loved Math and Science--Meg being my favorite--and the art that intertwined with it. She also mixed the two quite a lot--the Farandole in the Mitochondria danced, as I recall....
