Oh, wow, I love that photo...I've looked at a ton of it but that's the best yet. *Stare*
As for going there, I've never been there, but I want to go. When I visited Berlin this past July, my friend wanted to take a trip to see it. Too bad I don't think she realized exactly where it is in relation to Berlin. Plus, we were only in Germany for 3 days lol
That's seriously amazing! Castles are so beautiful and interesting! This one reminds me of the one in Beauty and Beast, that's not the same one at Disney Land is it?
Yeah, I know, I read that but I meant is this one the one that was in Beauty and the Beast too. I don't know, it was just some weird thought. I always thought it was just Cinderella's. Aww, you haven't! I have, I went like six years ago? Wow.
Ah okay. That just shows how much of a Disney expert I am - NOT! ;D As a kid, the character that amused me the most was "Dagobert Duck", Donald's rich uncle or whatever he was who would always count his money, lol. That was his German name, I believe it's different in the English original but can't think of it right now.
I think the one in Disney Land is based off of this castle, yes. That's what I've heard at least.
I went to Neuschwanstein Castle a couple years ago and LOVED it. I wish I could have taken pictures inside. I grew up with a big poster of this hanging above my bed, but never actually thought I would get to go there one day. :)
The guy was an absolute nutcase, no matter what the Bavarians say. The castle was built in a way so he had to see no servants when he was there, resulting in a table that could be lowered to the kitchens after dinner, so the servants didn't have to walk in the same room as the king...
The castle itself is 2 hours by train from Munich, and then you have to take a bus, then walk up the hill... it's quite far out, so only go there if you're able to take the car, the train ride is horrible, I heard.
Yeah, he was definitely eccentric - insane, I don't know. Royals at the time had all kinds of ideas and ummm... strange "habits" and quirks. He wouldn't have been THAT unusual in relation. But I guess we will never know what exactly happened there.
The last time we went to the castle, we simply drove and when I go again, I will probably do the same. I remember the drive so clearly, it was full of serpentines, those steep, winding roads. Somewhere in the middle of it, we saw a deer with its "bambi", haha. My kiddie heart was in love with everything from then on.
The train isn't that bad. It's very scenic. It's on an RB train, so it stops in every teeny village on the way (which makes it slow), but it's totally worth it.
