Yum, Reibekuchen. They have something like it here in the US called hash browns - it's breakfast food here.
In Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) we call them Kartoffelpuffer and they're served with sugar and applesauce. :)

there's Pillekooche too, that's just with not so fine grated potatoes XD

You're right, she doesn't. I like the site as it does have the pix with the recipes but what I hear about their "sueing" methods is... rather odd so maybe it should be avoided altogether. ;) You're lucky to have your Mom cook for you! =D

Eep, I had to remember that Germans use commas instead of decimals. That recipe was really confusing for a second.

Thank youuuuu.

*hug*

I love making German food. And now that I'm in college my teacher doesn't know about the German cook days I used to do in HS. XD

But now I'm going to hijack the kitchen and make some Reibekuchen! Heee.

In the Jewish tradition, we called those potato pancakes "latkes". I used to like sugar on mine when I was a kid, but now I prefer applesauce. There are some people who like sour cream on them too.

Apparently, this is the derivation of the word:

Yiddish, from Ukrainian oladka, from Old Russian, diminutive of olad'ya, from Greek eladia, pl. of eladion, little oily thing, from elaiā, olive.

I figured it had to be Yiddish, but I didnt' realize it wasn't a German-based word.
