actually I do know what listeria is, but the main reason is that raw hot dogs are gross.

Same here. I also used to do crazy shit like eat peas & corn out of the can. I look back and now recognize that as "poverty" rather than "kooky."

I've got a number of sources for handmade sausages. My current faves: classic Kielbasa, extra spicy andouille, and chicken pesto.
