Well, the guy seems reasonable intellignet and well-written....

And I was actually looking forward to this movie, dammit...

I read its pretty incredible. I mean come on, it's Sam Mendes!

But I'm actually surprised to hear that so many people are interested in seeing it, and I wonder what the main reason is. Is it because of the stars? Or because of Sam Mendes directing? Or because they have heard of the novel? Or because its a war movie?

Because its about the Gulf War, and since everyone I hear saying they want to see it is age 30 and below, I suspect its because its a war they lived during, and they want to see that play out in narrative form.

I am trusting Sam Mendes' talent, but not looking forward to seeing it because of it being a war movie, perhaps my least favourite genre. But ironically enough some of my absolute favourite films are war films: Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Paths of Glory.

People want to see it because it's about war--a war in Iraq, no less--and it has Jake Gyllenhal. Also, an oscar winner (Jamie Foxx), but he doesn't have the hottness factor.

Aha. I didn't realize Mr. Gyllenhal was a big number all of the sudden. It's weird how an actor skims the surface for years and you never hear anything being said about him/her, and then one movie comes along and everyone's like, "Oh my God! I have to see it because so and so's in it!", and I'm like, "Huh? Why haven't I heard you guys say anything about him/her before?"

Usually if a new movie mirrors a current event, that makes me not want to see it. Its part of that whole collective cashing in thing.

As much as I loved Ray, I still don't really appreciate Jamie Foxx. I know he was incredible as Ray Charles, but he's just too goofy otherwise for me to ever take him seriously. I have to wonder why more people didn't turn out to see Stealth just because he was in it. But I guess even though people really get attached to actors, they can still smell a bomb from a mile away! Wait, what am I saying!? Pearl Harbor made a lot of money...

Like several war movies...

And, if you want to watch something that has to do with a war we are living through right now, then everyone should watch "Over There" on FX, which is about the War in Iraq that is going on Right Now...

Excellent series... Steven Bochco rocks.

I've only heard good things so far about Jarhead. We'll probably go see it within the next few weeks. I really hope that its not disappointing.
