Coffee Bar -- An Open RP Thread

Megan sits at a table in the window of a Starbucks and peers out. She watches the throngs of New Yorkers go by, trying not to over-analyze them, trying to turn off the "cop" switch in her head and also trying to, at least for a moment, forget about China. Every time she sees a shock of jet black hair in the crowd, her heart beats a little faster ( Read more... )

Flack's original intention was to wander in for a quick cup of coffee, letting himself just shut off for a minute before having to go back to work. Crime scenes were hectic, and he liked having a few minutes of quiet between the parts of his job that he had to just sit and relax, before having to go back to work again. Driving helped a bit in that end, but there was nothing more automatic than ordering a cup of coffee. He placed his order and waited at the counter, drumming his fingers against it lightly as he watched the barista go about his work.

Megan set her coffee cup down with a sigh. She looked away from the window, from the sea of anonymous faces and glanced around the coffee shop.

Flack decided to get a cookie to go along with his coffee, and when he turned he caught sight of a familiar redhead sitting in the corner of the coffee house. He tried to catch her eye, waving slightly, but not saying anything.

He couldn't say he knew Wheeler that well, but he wasn't exactly opposed to getting to know her better. He also had heard about that assignment she had taken in China. All he knew was that it hadn't ended well -- he didn't know the specifics -- but he figured he'd take a chance with a wave, see if she was up to talking.

Megan saw the motion of Flack's wave--that's what caught her attention first and she looked up as his face focused into view. She gave a nod, and a wave back.

Bobby wandered into the coffee shop, his mind set on getting the closest thing to caffeine in an IV drip. He pulled a few crumbled dollars from his pocket and absently tossed them onto the counter, paying for his drink. As he waited, he finally took the time to look around the room. A familiar head of red hair caught his eye. He bit his lip, stuffing his hands into his pockets as he debated going over to her. The barista called his order, breaking his train of thought. He grabbed his coffee and made his way over to Megan.

Wheeler, mired in her thoughts after Flack's departure, didn't notice, focusing instead on her coffee cup, holding it with both hands, fingers twined together around it.
