If you comsider a few hundred a year in repairs against what car payments run to, you are still way ahead.

Get a diagnostic read and find out if its something you can fix. Sometimes the silliest things can make a car run bad. A truck I used to have sucked up a plastic shopping bag which got lodged in the air intake right by the filter. No air, no drive. I would start up, idle a few minutes and die. If I waited 10 minutes it would do the same thing all over again.

Plastic bag removal was free, because nobody could stop laughing long enough to write me a bill. The towing was free because of my auto club. The only cost was a taxi ride.
