I was hanging out with other fans this past weekend and one of them pointed out to me that I don't post much anymore. I guess that's probably true. I should try to change that! Here we go

>>>What is it with DC and Marvel and rich white male superheroes?
Superheroing requires a lot of time and money. Which is why the billionaires were never my favorites. Back in the 70s, I absolutely *loved* Luke Cage. Before I sold my comic book collection in the 90s I had every issue ever published of Hero For Hire and many of the issues of Power Man (before it was combined with Iron First). (And I also loved Peter Parker, because, clearly not rich, and having to deal with economic obstacles along with everything else that was screwing up his life.)
I haven't started watching Iron Fist yet, and am not particularly motivated to do so because of the huge THUMBS DOWN from most of my fannish feed.
Yeah, I recommend skipping Iron Fist. I watched it because I haven't really read any of the Defenders comics, so I didn't want to be behind the curve when that series starts. But it's really, really not good. *g*
I think your point about why you love Peter Parker is related to why I love Captain America. For that character, it really wasn't about anything but strength of heart. He came from nothing. It pleases me. (I feel that the MCU has tried to preserve that but with mixed results.)
I'd never really loved his singing voice the few times I'd hear it before - maybe because he was doing covers of cheesy love songs - but I really enjoyed it here.
I've been using the app Calm, too, this last year. The guided meditations have really helped me out. I didn't know they had sleep stories. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the tip off!
It's so rare to find an app that's fully useful! Of course, they do make us pay for it. Heh. But I guess in some cases you really do get what you pay for.
Oh, wow, Calm sounds right up my alley. I'm totally going to check it out! Lately to go to sleep I pick some steady mellow-voiced podcast about abstruse historical details, like "The Ancient World", and turn it down really soft, but I still run the risk of hearing something a little too interesting while I'm trying to unfocus my mind. So something specifically intended to bore me to sleep sounds promising. Thanks for the rec

Yes indeed, the miscasting is the primary problem. And it's even more glaring because the two roles I like best were well-cast, with good actors who have graceful, powerful fighting styles. Next to them he looks even worse! There's a couple scenes where he's paired to do Tai Chi (or a related kata) and when they mirror him, their form is perfect and his looks like an 8 year old who just watched a how to video on YouTube.
I hope Calm will be helpful! Today's meditation was about hygge, and last night's thing to put me to sleep was a story about an ox. Don't ask me what happened, I fell asleep. *g*
Ahhhhh, I went to sleep last night to The Shipping Forecast sleep-story on Calm, and it was so perfect. I ended up actually tracking down the current Shipping Forecast on my TuneIn Radio app, in case I need more hits. I find it fascinating--like, it's allllmost a recognizable weather forecast, but with all the specialty terms and numbers it's alllllmost a code or something. A perfect blend, for me. Thanks again!
