I've read roughly half the fic I have open in tabs right now, so time to pause and make a few recs. Most of these stories are on the long side. (Yay for long stories in Yuletide!!) Caveat as usual - I don't read every story in every fandom I like, and I rec stuff I enjoy for various reasons, not stories I think are the 'best'. There's a mixture of gen, het and slash here, including a few pairings I don't usually read.
Black Sails
skeleton tree - Billy Bones/Captain Flint, 6,612. This story is a bridge between the series, and Treasure Island, and I thought it did that job extremely well.
The Death of Captain Flint - Silver/Flint, 2,282 words. Well, Silver did say he'd be the end of Flint, didn't he? I like this version much better than the one that will probably come to pass in canon.
The Knave of Hearts - Flint/Silver, 3,729 words. An exploration of Flint's character in relation to Silver. Liked this one a lot.
There's Plenty of Men to Die - Tagged as both gen and slash, but I'm going with gen; 1,314 words. Silver's perspective on events at the end of season 3. Short and to the point.
Deadpool
Things To Do In Denver When You're Deadpool - Vanessa/Wade, 5,164 words. This story made me laugh out loud twice, and therefore it automatically gets a rec.
The Eagle/Eagle of the Ninth
Parsimonia, Diligentia, Iustitia - Marcus/Esca, 2,706 words. A lovely little story about Esca and Marcus setting up house. Domesticity FTW.
Murder in Barbarikon - Marcus/Esca, 14,748 words. Marcus and Esca go on adventures. And pretend to be lovers. For reasons.
Hornblower - C. S. Forester
Smallbridge - William Bush/Horatio Hornblower/Barbara Wellesley, 12,230 words. Wherein Barbara is way smarter than any man in this universe, and puts the correct pieces together so all can be happy.
Kings
Birthright - Jack/David, 9,160 words. Jack finds David, and they come to an understanding.
L.A. Confidential
forest in the desert - Jack Vincennes/Ed Exley, 14,349 words. A really good and unusual AU, where Exley and Vincennes encounter each other in a slightly different context. The tone and dialogue in this feel just right.
Live Free or Die Hard (Die Hard 4)
Feeling Better - McClane/Farrell, 3,647 words. Matt isn't doing well. John comes to the rescue.
Retirement Might Be A Myth, and Bullet Holes Suck (According to John McClane) - McClane/Farrell, 4,985 words. Probably my fave story to come out of Yuletide so far. Several years after the fire sale, Farrell calls John out of the blue, and you know that's not going anywhere good.
The Martian
Navigating by the Light of a Minor Planet - Beck/Johanssen, 21,669 words. This does eventually get to Beck/Johanssen, but it's a well-written story about the process of getting to a place in life where one really knows what one wants, and it centers on Johanssen. I really liked this story a lot.
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)
The Fragile Skiff Attains The Shore - Jack Aubrey/Stephen Maturin, 13,362 words. Stephen goes missing; Jack goes after him.
The Rat Patrol
The Exterminate-A-Rat Raid - gen, 20,117 words. A mission-centered story with a really excellent characterization of Dietrich. Feels like a missing episode to me.
The Sting
truth deceived - Henry/Johnny, 7,047. Henry and Johnny pretend to be in a relationship. For reasons.
