Tom Holland is the new Spider-Man, according to Variety. This makes me unbelievably happy, because a) he was utterly fantastic in The Impossible, b) he is not Dylan O'Brien, and c) he is not Asa Butterfield. Life is good. Swing on, Spidey ( Read more... )

Each year I was prepared for NBC to cancel Hannibal, and each year I was happily surprised by its renewal. Yet though I was supposedly prepared for it, it still stung. And apparently Amazon just announced that they will not pick up Hannibal. So I guess we wait to hear from Netflix. Waaaaah. :(

I quit Game of Thrones before the penultimate episode, and haven't really enjoyed it for the last couple of years. But this year I finally said, enough, no more, I'm completely done. And I don't miss it at all. It's frankly a relief not to want to/have to tune in anymore.

I have watched and loved a lot of grimdark shows over the years, and have even wallowed in them. Hannibal even falls into that category - but one of the things it has which GoT utterly lacks is black humor, and small moments of personal triumph. That dark comedic touch is so essential for there to be something other than misery and horror; literally nothing good ever happens on GoT, and I think when I realized that, I felt pretty content in dumping it. I actually can't think of anything good EVER happening on that show. Satisfying, sure. Happy, no.

Re Hannibal's pickup, I thought the Amazon thing was just a rumor because it came from some customer service reps? I guess we shall see. I would be surprised, really, if they did pick it up. I think Netflix is the best hope, but that might be contingent on a package deal for the streaming rights to 1-3, which Amazon owns.

Thanks for the link to the New Yorker article! It's good to see what all the fuss is about -- and to reconfirm my personal DNW. (: But by all means, enjoy yourself.

To each their own. That's what makes life beautiful. But my life will be MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL with a season 4 of Hannibal. *g*

That New Yorker article is SO spot on, it was fantastic. Thanks for the link!

Ugh, and now the prayer circle starts for it getting picked up by someone else.

Prayer circle indeed. You know it's so odd to see such a visible reaction to the cancellation, when really the ratings were so terrible. WHY WERE ALL THESE PEOPLE NOT IN THE RATINGS. Why. Sigh.

i've just read so much from fuller for so long that makes it look like he really does have options, and the funding model makes it such an obvious buy, in my opinion. and hell, twin peaks and the x-files are coming out, we're in the second wave of the second great tv golden era blah blah blah :)

I would not like it if this season ended similarly to the way last season ended. That ending was indeed one that could be a series finale. But if I had been left forever with Will Graham bleeding out on the kitchen floor, I would not have been pleased. Then again, this is Hannibal, so I should really just resign myself to something terrible. *g*

I hope they can save it. If we got even one more season of the show, I'd be pleased. It is unlike anything else on TV, and it's probably the only show of this type that won't feature violence against women as a foregone conclusion. I get so tired of that. Tiiiiired.
