Well we all knew it was going to end bloody, and the blood has started.

I am actually happy to see Crixus dead and I hope that Agron is as well cause I don't want to see them lining the 'Appian Way' That would be too sad.

I was not happy with Agron saying to Nasir that he had nothing over the mountain, he had Nasir and to me thats all that really mattered.

And since Tiberius is a fictional son I am expecting Caesar to get payback, major payback.

But on another note, have loved watching Nasir fight these last few weeks, can so see the Maori warrior in him.

If Nasir hadn't come into this show so late, he would have been my favorite. I love him. He is gorgeous when he fights. But he had to get in line after Oenomaus, Crixus, Mira, and Agron. *g* Man, I love these characters. And yeah, I think Caesar is going to take his revenge in unexpected ways, because this show is really, really good at twists, and with two eps to go, something has to turn Spartacus around and send him back toward Crassus.

I struggles thru the first season of Spartacus and it wasn't until I watched Gannicus' story that I actually liked the show.

And then of course it took me ages to get behind the new Spartacus after the first passed away. So this is the first season of the 'Spartacus' story that I have really liked. (maybe cause Manu's hair is not that aweful buzz cut anymore)

I like Crassus so its going to hard to see him go against Spartacus and I hope that Nasir and Gannicus don't die or end up on the cross. but I know it ends bloody so if I had to choose I hope they die a clean death.

Yeah, there are certain things we know will happen. Spartacus will die. Caesar will live. And Tiberius will die in some truly awful manner.

Oh Caesar. I'm... not all that surprised they went there, tbh. Contemporaries loved spreading rumors about Caesar's sexual history with King Nicomedes, so this is only one step further.

Yeah, but I think the context of this - and the violence of it - set it rather far apart from the rumors of the day. And that to me is what makes it a bit shocking. I kind of love that a show like this still can shock me, because all the history behind it feels so familiar to me.

ostly I'm like, DID THAT JUST HAPPEN???? HOW DO THEY EVEN DARE??? But dare they do, because this is SPARTACUS, MOTHERFUCKERS. I didn't really see that coming.

IKR??

And I'll just add - especially in light of that essay I linked to about how we never see "realistic" rape of male heroes on screen. Caesar isn't a hero in this story, but he does have a heroic quality, and he's painted as better than the people who surround him, so that's pretty close.

Oh more - Naevia - I am so fucking terrified. Because if she has to be sexually tortured again I will lose it. I am praying that she manages to die quickly, even if she has to kill herself.

Oh my god, Naevia. Yeah, I share your fear about that. I was so sure for a second there she was going to shove her neck down on that sword and end it right there. I know she will take the first opportunity she gets and do it, and take some Romans out with her.

I read that essay when you linked to it, and I think it's one of the best pieces on the topic I've ever seen. I was really struck by the way she describes the tension between perceived reality and honesty in storytelling, and why it's women who are on the receiving end of all that 'honesty'. I think Spartacus stomps gleefully over all the expected tropes in this regard. There's so much to unpack in the show with regard to agency and empowerment and control.

Oh god, D, I was a sobbing mess at the end of this ep. :(((

But I'm also blown away by the show this season. It started out as a silly blood and guts and fighting and wheee! naked people!! show for me. I never really expected much, but it has come SO damn far since the beginning and it's truly amazing.

You always write such thoughtful reaction posts that I'm pretty much left just going: THIS!! THIS SO MUCH!! so that's what I'll do this week.

(I saw a spoiler even though I didn't seek it out - ugh, tumblr, you suck - but if it's true then Agron isn't dead, which is what I was thinking during the ep anyway. To me, the way they played it indicated that he's not, but WHO KNOWS with this show. )
