I have only started watching SPN again after a long break, so I don't really understand everything that's going on, but I really enjoyed that episode! And how much do I love that: a) Dean's subconscious is the sort of subconscious that changes his memories so that everything is his fault, seriously, and b) this is yet more proof that he has clearly managed to find a (non-brother) BFF who is even more self-loathing than he is. Because of course! Kindred spirits indeed.

I don't have any particular investment in the tablets as a Magical McGuffin Plot, but I was cheering when Kevin's mom beat up a demon and locked him in the trunk of her car. HEE.

But not as much as I was cheering when Castiel totally made Crowley turn tail and run.

Holy CRAP, Dean, just, *flappy hands*.

It was LESS PAINFUL for him to believe that it was his fault that Cas didn't get out of Purgatory than to face the thought that he chose to stay there. That Castiel abandoned him instead of the other way around.

I loved that all the stuff Dean said trying to convince Cas it wasn't Dean's fault was the actual truth. "I don't need to feel like I failed you. I tried so hard to get you out. Why didn't you try harder?" He's telling himself the truth, but he still doesn't believe it. Oh, bb honey...

It has been suggested elsewhere that Chuck is Metatron. Which, with the coda on the tablet, makes a certain amount of sense.

They're doing so many parallels to things in early seasons, and so many callbacks, wow.

I thought it was really interesting that Dean kept saying, "I don't need to feel like this," to Cas before Cas gave him the proper memory, because, no, he really didn't need to feel that way, he chose to. And I find it VERY interesting that Cas told him he remembered things the way he needed to,, because this season is allllllllll about the parallels, and I think that's going to apply to Sam, too. His flashbacks are way too apple pie perfect, and I think it's going to turn out that he's remembering things the way he needs to, and not necessarily the way they actually happened. (I'm deeply suspicious of Amelia. I mean, both her names are references to things that happened last season. That is not a coincidence.)

So THRILLED to have Cas back again! But oh, Dean's face! ::flails:: Dean, you always need to save everyone, don't you?

I loved the parallels to 4.01 in this, even the way Cas was looking at Dean reminded me of his entrance in that ep. It was just such a fantastic ep overall, I was all no no no when it ended, because I wanted it to go on FOREVER. Loved how Sam and Dean actually communicated with each other, loved how Cas "cleaned up" (I giggled at seeing him all clean and Cas'ed up again in the suit), love loved loved how awesomely evil Crowley is. Mark Shepherd is having a hell of a good time with this role, and his gleefulness is catching. :D

I'm enjoying Kevin's plotline, although I think you're right in that it needs to go somewhere new. It's fun watching his mom be awesome, though.

Cas with the wings, and the glowing eyes, that's something we haven't exactly seen before. I'm intrigued. I'm intrigued by everything in this ep. Must. Rewatch. \o/

My heart fluttered for the first time all season-- Cas is back!! lillian78 November 15 2012, 21:33:00 UTC
And God network please don't spell it Cass...I loved just about everything about this episode. Cas feeling he had to stay in purgatory to atone for his sins...Dean near to shedding tears when Cas filled him in on what really happened. OMG. I've forgotten how much I missed the *real* Cas. Not the power mad Cas or the crazy Cas but the simple, innocence that he projects no matter what he's been through. Agree though that Kevin is working my last nerve. Hopefully, with the other tablets to find Crowley (love him too by the way) will concentrate on those for a while with the boys on the search too. On the down side I've hated whats his name the new vamp character. Come on vamp angst? Eeech. I've had enough vamps on tv, books and movies to last a lifetime. Also, with what Cas and Dean have been through couldn't we get even a brotherly/friendship hug out of Dean? Argggh. It's really annoying me. Yes, yes, fans will say that's not Dean's personality but I can't believe that after all Cas and Dean have been through together he's not worth a ( ... )
