I think the parallel of the main storyline was with Lisa/Ben, and was basically "sometimes being with the people you love fucks them up".

Unless of course thats Sam with Dean. I lvoe how when Dean gives the "Be my Valentine line (again!)"Sam doesn't say " you're a dick", he says NOT NOW ;D

I felt there was a balance with the brothers dynamic - I mean they are still sorting things out, and dealing with a fucking possible thing with Sam's soul issues, but i thought the episode nicely bookended the show - its started with dean caring for Sam, and ended with Sam caring for Dean.

As usual, you make excellent points! I hadn't thought about the beginning and ending as parallel caretaking, but you're entirely right, and that makes me love those scenes even more. :D

And also, the not now. Ahaha! Yes! Well. That's what keeps fandom in business. It's job security for fanfic writers. *g*

I love the Valentine thing also, coz you just know Dean is someone who will keep using a joke long past its use by date! I bet Sam's been hearing that since he was 6!

I loved Dean's reaction to Sam's "I've got your back" - Ackles is so good at selling us what's Dean's feeling without words.

Sweetie, what scares me is that the parallel in the story might be that sometimes the band-aid just won't work and death is the only solution.

(But is it wrong that I had a moment of - has Lucifer really left the building? I AM DUBIOUS.)

I had a moment of dubiousness there, too. Like maybe that wall is blocking out more than bad memories. But nyah. We can't be doing that storyline again. Surely.

I had a Dubious, but not about Lucifer. Look at the timeline: Sam scratches the Wall, Sam's heart stops, Sam wakes up and gets all commanding, then we see Lisa again. The last time we saw Lisa, Sam had no soul. The last time Sam was commanding, no soul. The last time he was dead, he came back with no soul. My Dubious asked, "Just how tight did Death, who wanted to teach Dean a Valuable Lesson about why we don't mess with the boundaries between states of existence, bolt Sam's soul in?" and I didn't have a good answer.

The early Sam and Dean talk had me worried. Show, are we really locking them into this particular dynamic again?

But we get the last Sam and Dean scene. And Sam worrying about Dean and trying to get him to deal with his issues and the boys seeming as if they like each other which makes me very happy. And things that look to me like actual progress.

We share a brain on Lisa and Ben. Oh, my heart.

Don't scare me with your speculating! I DESPAIR at the mere thought that we aren't well and truly done with ambiguous!Sam. Despair and show rage. I won't be able to take it seriously if they do that. I will have only mockery.

this is the second time Dean has tried to give Sam a heart as a valentine

Good catch. I forgot all about that.
