On the topic of J2

Nov 09, 2009 08:44

I woke up this morning and the internet informed me that Jensen and Danneel are engaged. (Like everyone who saw that ring on her finger wasn't clued in already.) To which I say, WOO-HOO! They are two of the prettiest people ever, and my immense love for JA guarantees that I only want him to be happy. She seems adorable. Here's hoping fandom is ( Read more... )

<3 I just saw your post about it as well. I really would hate to see a mass exodus from J2-land. *hangs on by fingernails* Really, when they moved in together, I thought to myself, this too must inevitably pass. *g*

I started reading RPF with SPN, really. I dabbled before but this fandom dragged me in all the way. I approach it much as you do though your explanation for it is more fun.

I hope fandom behaves and sends warm happiness toward the loveliness that is JA.

So far, I haven't seen the wank everyone including me fears and dreads and cringes to think about. Hopefully I can either avoid it, or it won't happen at all. (I think the RPF was probably a gateway drug for many people!)

This whole post pretty much sums up how I feel on the subject, especially these two parts
To which I say, WOO-HOO! They are two of the prettiest people ever, and my immense love for JA guarantees that I only want him to be happy.

There's a very clear dividing line in my mind between the man who just got engaged, and the guy in my story who was getting mash notes from Jared via candy hearts.

Yay, like minds. :) I know not everyone can really take my approach to it, but it diminished my RPS squick substantially.

Yeah I agree, except. There's this pesky thing called canon, i.e., somewhere along the line, I do want the story to fit into the small pieces we're given, however fake or produced they are.

And I have a huge cheating squick, so that I think I'll stay on the side of AUs. You're right that there are great ways to do justice to 'reality' aka our canon :) and not mistreat the girls. But sadly I see it happen too often...

Which means, I don't actually disagree with you...but I do think it affects our reading and writing in certain ways nevertheless...

Which doesn't mean, I don't COMPLETELY agree that I'm happy for Jensen (as far as I actually care :) and that the guys in my mind are definitely *not* the actors...

Argh! And this really wasn't the post to get into the intricacies of RPS canon and how close we are to reality/how much we do rely on it or not.

So, sorry@!!!

It's a great post, and I'm glad I found out about the engagement from you here rather than in the reaction you so fear :)

Ha! I saw your comment below re not getting into the intricacies of canon, BUT! I was just about to answer this comment with a longer-than-usual dissertation on RPS canon, and how I both agree and disagree. For instance, I really am thrown from a story if the writer gets the names of the dogs wrong, because that's such an easily obtainable fact, but on the flip side, if they get something more obscure wrong like the teams Jensen likes or the date Jared got engaged, I couldn't care less. But the thing is, everyone has a different threshold for this, and frankly, since none of us know enough details about their lives to really constitute a complete 'canon', the framework of facts is so basic that it can be stretched almost any direction and still work for some readers. You can take the canon of Jensen getting engaged and then skip forward five years and break them up, and that doesn't make it not canon. Also, if done well, it doesn't constitute mistreating the girls. Or cheating. So it's all very subjective. *g ( ... )

If only all of J2 fandom had as firm a grasp on reality as you do. ;)

They are two of the prettiest people ever, and my immense love for JA guarantees that I only want him to be happy. She seems adorable.

I'm thrilled for them (but, yeah, the pretty rock was a dead give-away before the official announcement)! They should get married and produce many gorgeous babies! :D

*g* I think most J2 fans are very grounded; it's just that I know some folks really are not able to make the line in their head as clear as I have. I had to for my own sake, or I couldn't have enjoyed it at all. It seems that RL heterosexuality and commitment really is a dividing line for many people, which surprises me some, and yet kind of doesn't.

This is what I've been saying since I first saw pictures of Danneel. There should be wee kidlets with her smile and his freckles and eyes that like to climb Jared like a jungle gym.

And in the meantime, there can be fic of all three of them in various pretty, pretty configurations.

lalalala, I cannot hear you on the kidlets, because I don't like kids. (Just one more way I'm completely different than 99% of all women and 50% of all fans.) However, I am all for pretty configurations, so I'm with you there. *g*
