I was sort of appalled at the way they *showed* Cicero's murder - that was intensely bloody. Then I remember the gladiator scene with Pullo and Vorenus and remember to shift my standards.

Didn't the battle scene strike you as way too CGI? I had to laugh as the legions attacked each other.

I hope Octavia gets a modicum of happiness. I loved her and Agrippa trying to be discreet as they raced up to Octavian, late.

Brutus looked like he was going to kiss the man he was sending to his mother. I liked that he told them to save themselves, aware of the inevitability of his death and doing nothing to forestall it. I suspect the robber who took his father's ring will find no joy in it. Doomed.

Heh. It's funny; sometimes they have these lengthy periods where the blood is minimal, and then wham! They're right back into it. *g*

That battle scene was dreadfully CGI, and I think the wash-out of the color only made it worse. I had this sense that we really were watching maybe 10 real guys, and the rest were CGI. Whether true or not, it just looked silly.

You are right, the episode did have a different tone to it, but it was great. I actually like the battle scene a lot, i thought it was very well done and pretty believable.

I still can't get used to the new Octavian though, and i don't mean just the fact that they changed the actor. It seems like he is a completely different person now, and yeah, i understand that he grew up, and people change, some more then others, but tranformation just seems to be too sudden. For me at least.

I thought i really heard Pullo saying that he was going to eat Vorenus if he did not get any chicken!

But the episode was good.

*nod* I've seen opinion about him pretty evenly divided -- some people can't get used to him, and some took to him right away. What I think is kind of cool is that he has the same flat delivery Pirikis had, and it makes me feel like they are matching up. But the physical changes are kind of hard to get around, you're right.

Also, is it wrong that when Pullo said he was going to eat Lucius if he didn't get any chicken, I thought for a minute he meant Vorenus, and I was like, YES PLEASE...? 'Cause if that's wrong, I guess I'm guilty. *g*

Yes! I was knitting away and sort of made a choking noise and my father sort of glared at me and then said, "I don't want to know." *bg*

Early on in the series he was wondering aloud if perhaps the writers had mistaken Rome for Sparta because of all the UST between Vorenus and Pullo. I think maybe he spends too much time hanging around with me and my friends. *g*

See you soon hon!

It did feel different, and I wonder how much of that is that this ep had the feeling of being on the precipice of when Things Are Going To Happen. Not that things haven't happened already, but up until now, it's felt like all the pieces and people have been getting into into their new positions after the shakeup of Caesar's death.

I think my favorite part of the episode was Pullo's little "Eh? Ohhhh. Heh, I made a baby" blink-and-smile back there while Eirene was sobbing on the bed. Aw, Pullo.

And Cicero's death scene reminded me of Caesar's more than Brutus' did -- mostly in my reaction to it, because you're right about the visual parallels of the staging. But my reaction to both Caesar and Cicero was very much "Oh no, I know he dies, because he did, but can he just not this time? Ack, dammit."

I think you're right; they are pulling things together now, and getting much closer to that point where things start rolling and don't stop. I'm a little bit scared of that point, actually, because I don't want it to end, and I know they are probably going to break me a little. *g*

Hee! He fails as a husband, and if I were Eirene, I'd kick his ass. *g* But he's adorable.

Brutus's death had strong echoes of Caesar's murder

That was absolutely brilliant. Also, I am completely in LOVE with Agrippa. Brave, modest, faithful, he's adorable.

I like the Octavian-Agrippa-Maecenas triumvirate - very nice interaction and interesting dynamics. They each respect the others' opinions, which is nearly unique in the series. Love the way Octavian saw how Agrippa wanted a fight, and let him go into the battle.

And now ONE WEEK before we see what happens next!

Ooooh, I love Agrippa too, and you're right -- that triumvirate is nicely tense and creepy. I can't quite figure out Maecenas, and I think that's how it's supposed to be, historical perspective aside. It's almost like Agrippa is the angel on Octavian's shoulder, and Maecenas the devil. *g*
