It was a fucking brilliant party, Chris had to admit. He was loaded up on pills and spliff, and he was pretty bloody content with it all. When he finally left, he had the numbers of two girls, which he was quite pleased about ( Read more... )

Jack finds this place thoroughly troublesome. He winds up getting trapped way, way too often, though he's glad that this time he isn't in a time loop with John Hart. That had been the most tiring two weeks/five years of his life. The sheer lack of exciting places to go is frustrating, though he supposes the people make up for it; if Jack's anything, he's a people person. For better or for worse.

He doesn't know what to make of the beach; it's too close to home but nothing like home, and he just isn't comfortable standing out in the sand watching the waves roll in for too long, though he can't exactly place why. He's strolling back in from the beach, carrying his shoes in his hand, when he sees the confused kid standing around. At least, he's pretty sure it's a kid. With some races, it's hard to tell; some even age backwards. (Benjamin Button, for the record, was not just a story ( ... )

"Well, that's where you are then," he says with a shrug, wondering if Chris will feel this way when he wakes up in the morning. "I'm Jack by the way. Captain Jack Harkness."

The coffee part starts gurgling and he glances at it. He hopes Chris likes it black because that's how he's getting it; he needs to snap out of this. "Where are you from? And what year is it?"

"Er...Bristol. You know, England. And uh...2007...I think."

He won't mind the black coffee, just as long as it's not too hot.

He sighs heavily and turns around to grab a mug, setting it on the counter and pouring coffee into it. He sets it in front of Chris and sits down across from him, watching him with mild concern, mild annoyance, though he's more annoyed that he's subjecting himself to this instead of doing something else with his time. He still blames the Doctor.

"Well, at least this won't be as much of a shock. Most things around here are from that time period." Except for the occasional spaceship he's seen here or there. "And there's no way to go home," he says, not necessarily more or less gently than he's said anything else; the kid doesn't really need gentle so much as a megaphone to get through the fog.

He nods, seeming to comprehend what Jack is telling him--except he's really not. Drugs mess him up well, apparently.

"Yeah..." He sips the coffee a bit.

Well... That's productive. He wonders if he should check up on this kid after he's had time to burn off this buzz, but Jack isn't sure what to do with this unwelcome sense of responsibility. He decides to wave it off for now and he gets up to get himself a drink, pouring some coffee into a mug and sitting back down.

If this kid's going to barely remember anything Jack might as well have fun, he figures. "I'm from the future. The 51st century. There are actually quite a few people from the future here -- who have traveled in time and space." He pangs a little for the Doctor and Rose but he does his best to ignore it.

"The future? Cool, cool." He nods, smiling. "Flying cars and that sort of shit?"
