Walking outside by the waterline is someone who hasn't been seen in quite some time. Her bare feet skim over the sand and she twirls on occasion, humming some upbeat tune or another to herself.

River's returned, it seems, and she's having a good day.

It's been ages. As soon as he catches sight of the familiar figure of his sister, Simon takes off down the beach toward her, panting as he draws close. "River! Nín yào de lái le!* Where have you been?"

*"There you are."

One more twirl and she'll grin and take his hand. "Nǐ hǎo, Simon!" She'll pause and tilt her head a little. "I can't tell you. I'm sorry."

"Why not?" he asks, breathless. "River, you can't run away like that! You could have been hurt, and I wouldn't have been able to help you."

She gives her brother a serious look. "We're in a temporal anomaly."

And there's a Kara, lounging on the beach, but she looks up, sees River, and grins. "Hello," she calls cheerfully. "Are you new, or have I just not been paying attention?"

River gives Kara a smile. "Neither one."

"Okay then," Kara returns, looking amused, and stands to offer a hand. "I'm Kara."

River studies Kara for a moment. "You know Simon."

Oh good, one less crew member to worry about, being off somewhere doing crazy things. Now she can be here, doing crazy things. Where Simon can keep an eye on her.

"There you are, River. We've been mighty worried about you."

"No need to worry, Captain Reynolds. I was safe. We all were. As safe as usual, but nothing happened."

Inara is, presumably, out for a walk -- she needed a change of scenery from her shuttle. She smiles when she notices River, and hurries over.

"There you are! Simon's been looking for you, River."

"He found me. Or I found him. Or maybe both. It's complicated."
