Starting things off with a bang

Jul 26, 2008 17:56

Around two in the morning, there was an explosion in the kitchen. Nothing outside the kitchen was harmed, but it might be a little while before the smell of burning appliances and ceramics clears completely.

Scattered around the lobby are playing cards, all jokers. Playing on an infinite loop on the television is a video:

cut for violence and disturbing imagery )

boone carlyle, michael western, captain hammer, grace hanadarko, dr. horrible, warren peace, jonathan crane, bruce wayne, the joker

Of course the explosion catches his attention. He coughs at the smell of the burned appliances and the left over smoke. While he certainly takes note of the cards, it's the video that really catches Jonathan's attention.

To be honest, he's not sure how to react. Part of him amused, part of him fascinated -- mostly he's amused in an almost disgusted sort of way.

"And they say I'm crazy," he muses to himself. He picks up a card and heads off to find the Joker.

Of course, a certain someone was probably up when the explosion occurred. He pauses in the kitchen, though, long enough to watch the video, and reaches to pick up a joker card silently. Once he's seen the video the whole way through, he silently makes his way out. The Batman is hunting.

Warren is of course drawn to the explosion, fire and pyrokinetics after all, and when he finds what happened he just stands there, staring wide-eyed at the television as it plays over and over, cards crumpling beneath his feet. Warren may be tough and more familiar with supervillains than most, he may be considered more someone to be afraid of than someone to be afraid of anything among the people he knows, but even the most psychotic villains where he is from can't come anywhere close to comparing to this, and when all's said and done he's only sixteen. He shocked, and he feels ill, and he can't look away.

Grace is lounging around her room in her pajamas, working her way through the mini-bar (again), when the explosion hits. With a "holy shit!" she grabs a robe and her gun (turns out it was on the floor next to the nightstand), and rushes downstairs.

Relieved that the damage appears to be minimal (though the Lord only knows what the destruction of the kitchen will do to the liquor supply), she pauses to watch the video.

At the bit with the pencil, she swears, steps back, slips on a card, and lands on her rear.

"Shit. Hell, this isn't shaping up to be a good day."

Michael leans down, offering Grace a hand. "If this was the beginning of a good day for someone, I'd worry." He'd met some twisted people in his career, and seen (and experienced) a lot of torture for the sake of extracting information. But rarely, if ever, did he see torture for the simple sake of torture.

She takes the hand. "Well, might be a good day for him," she gestures at the television, "I mean, the crazy one, not the dead guy."

"Yeah, usually not a good day if you're dead... I've learned that the hard way. A few times. That's worrying..." He shakes his head. "Michael Westen. I don't think I've met you yet. Kind of a crummy way to meet someone, really."

Captain Hammer just wanted a cup of coffee. When the burning smell reaches him, he pauses -- did someone incinerate their attempt at a meal? But it's worse than that, and he hurries to check on the situation. Someone might need his saving expertise.

He catches the TV halfway through its loop, watches to the end, and then watches again. He looks a little pale. This is a completely different breed of villain than he's used to. "What kind of twisted . . ."

Dr. Horrible is, frankly, shocked and appalled. He shudders, unconsciously moving a little closer to Hammer. "I've done some evil things before, but this is just wrong..."

"What are you doing here?" snaps Hammer, clearly unnerved. "In case you didn't catch the video, the position of resident freak is taken."

"I'm not a freak. I'm an evil genius. There's a difference," he grumbles, looking away from the tape. "I'd never do anything like that. I don't think violence is the way to get what you want. Not -- hurting people like that."
