Now that Joe is getting more steady on his feet, Luka has begun taking him on walks around the hotel, today father and son can be found down near the gift shop as Luka does double duty, both entertaining his young son and looking for ideas for some Christmas gifts for him. At 6'4", Luka's height is proving slightly inconvenient as he tries to hold ( Read more... )

Alan, who has been wandering the hotel looking for either a way out or some clue as to just what is going on (and wondering What Would Sarah Jane Do?), has just found the gift shop. He's thinking about getting something for Maria-- if he ever sees her again-- when Luka and Joe arrive. He can't help but smile their way, because he remembers when Maria was that young with so much fondness.

"They have some nice toys," he calls from where he is fingering a very pretty beaded necklace. "Books too."

"That's good to hear, I was afraid I wouldn't find anything, and with this being his first Christmas he'll be able to really enjoy, well." Luka smiled as he stopped himself in mid thought and picked his son up. Carrying him over to where Alan stood he extended his hand.

"Luka Kovac." He pronounced his name so that the "c" came across sounding as if it were a "ch" on the end, and a definite accent was present in his words.

"And this is my son, Joe."

Alan leans forward for a solid handshake. He notices the accent, but as a Londoner, he has his own. "Good to meet you, Luka. I'm Alan Jackson. I'm sure you'll find something."

He stops and gives Joe a broad grin. "And hello, Joe. I bet you're a handful for your dad here."

"I'm sure I will, it's just..." He shifted the toddler to one hip as the boy found his attention drawn to a window display.

"It's not exactly how I expected we'd be spending the holiday." Luka glanced at his son for a moment before looking back at the other man.

"Have you been here long?"

Typically, Max doesn't celebrate Christmas, but this year, she somehow feels more in the spirit of things. So she wanders into the gift shop, perhaps in search of a few gifts.

She smiles, taking notice of little Joe, tilting her head slightly. "Well, hi."

Having taken advantage of what he'd thought was a clear path, Luka had released Joe to let the boy walk on his own. Still fairly new to the task, he's mastering the movement, but stopping suddenly is something else, and as Max greets Joe he all but runs into her as she catches him off guard.

"Oops, sorry about that." Luka immediately apologizes and moves in to pick Joe up from where he has plopped in surprise on her feet.

"That's okay." Max grins at the little boy. "First day with your new feet, huh? Keep at it, you're doing good."

"Not exactly his first day, but, pretty new at it. Right, Joe?" Luka picks his son up with the question.

"Luka Kovac, and Joe you've met, I should have picked a better place to let him loose I think." He offers the apology within the introduction.
