The bar was quickly becoming one of Justin's favorite places, as much as anything in the place could be a favorite when he had never had any intention of being there; it wasn't even the alcohol he was there for (though it did help to calm his nerves a little, which were still shot from the unexpected turn of events topped off on what had already ( Read more... )

Connor gave the young man a friendly nod and polite smile, "Lookin' fer some company, per chance? Always better t'drink with someone than t'drink alone."

"Now that's just fucked, that is," Connor said, boggling. "I mean -- who're they t'judge, right? Not like they're God -- or've even spoken to Him. Fuck it, I've got a man, meself." He winced a little, "Just -- don't tell my Da that. He'd do about the same as your people in Pittsburgh. Only when he says it, I believe it."

Justin nods, and looks pleasantly surprised to have finally met someone other than Brian in the place that wasn't on the straight and narrow.

"I won't, promise. My dad had me arrested, rammed his car into the vehicle of the guy I was seeing, didn't really care that I got my head bashed in by a jock from school .. no one deserves to have to deal with shit like that, especially from family."

"Oof, that's pretty harsh." Connor finished his whiskey with a cringe. "I... don't know what my Da would do. And I think that's what scares me the most. We grew up in a pretty tiny town, my brother'n I. Very small, very Catholic. My ma still doesn't know, actually. Not plannin' on tellin' her anytime soon." He smiled at Justin, "Yer braver'n I am, comin' out to yer parents. Maybe someday I'll work up the courage."

Typist: Wow -- I'm sorry, I thought I hit 'post comment' on this last night, but I guess not XD

"I wouldn't call it courage," Justin admits. "Actually, my mom figured it out on her own and she asked me if I had a boyfriend.. things just went from there, but I didn't deny it." He pauses. "I wish Debbie was here, she'd probably have something smart to tell you about courage, and she's Catholic, with a gay son too."

"Debbie's a friend a'yers, then?" Connor looked a bit thoughtful, "Maybe if she was here, she could talk to my parents. Though really, when Da gets an idea, nothin's gonna change his mind. Ma's a little easier, but not by much."

"Debbie is everybody's friend really - she's sort of like a second mom for anybody that goes to the Liberty Diner in Pittsburgh. She's totally over the top but she's great, and she talked to my mom, got her to stop freaking out over my being gay. If she shows up here, I'll have to introduce her to you."

He smiled, "She sounds like a lovely person, I'd love t'meet her." After a moment or so, he refilled his glass, "So, have ye made any friends, since bein' here? Some interestin' folk about."
