Hey, it's been a while, but when I last put up a call for volunteers to become a moderator, there was actually a pretty good response. The thing is, I already know what sort of solution I want. I'm sure it would definitely benefit the community, but -- I want to see how everyone else feels about it, so for now, I'll just list all of the candidates and see what everyone else has to say about them.
The comments are screened, and you are welcome to list any concerns or praise you may have about any of the following people. This way, we can get both the 'votes' and gauge the negative reaction to that person becoming a mod.
In no particular order, the people are:
mhari AKA Manon. Plays Mordred, Feuilly, Artemis, Clarion, Mosca Mye, and quite a few others. She says "I have more free time than is strictly decent and I spend most of it online. I am good at finicky boring maintenance work like tagging. I am evenhandedly intolerant of drama, I am reasonably diplomatic, I am willing to enforce rules but not inclined to be nitpicky about them. I have been known to instigate Actual Plot (see: Christmas fair). I am nice to newbies. I like kittens." and she is available through e-mail, and on both AIM and IRC (pretty much all the time, though not in chat).
mrsjnorrington AKA Courtney. Plays Maximum, Claudia, Julia (1984), Sarah, Alyss, and a few others. She says "I'm on often and have mIRC connection as well as AIM and MSN messenger. I'm rarely on MSN though. I'm on often enough, I think, and have been around about a year." and I can vouch that she's pretty much online and in chat all the time, and that she's never been involved with any sort of drama.
jiasachan AKA Anna. Plays Lord Henry Wotton, Gavin Strood, and Patrice L'aigle (Bossuet). [and quite a few others, but those are her most recognizable ones] She says "I've successfully not gotten involved in any OOC drama since I've been here, and I'm pretty sure I can continue to avoid that. I can't imagine any reason why people wouldn't feel comfortable coming to me about any issues they have, and I'd like to do what I can to help out around DF and keep things sane (except for, you know, the crack) and fun. I like to think of myself as a reasonable human being, too, so I'd be as fair as humanly possible." and she is available through e-mail, and on IRC (and in chat, though not as often online as the others).
ETA:
fyreworks AKA Rae. Plays Lestat, Cho Chang and the Weasley Twins. She says "I think in all situations communication is key between everyone involved, mods or players alike, and I do my best to keep those lines open at all times. Supporting one another and keeping a united front is also something I consider important when being a mod.", has had a lot of experience moderating (2 years on a messaging board), and is consistently and very willing to be contacted on various IMs, LJ, and IRC.
ETA2:
angelforlife AKA Morg. Plays Jareth. She says "What I can bring to DF as a moderator is a willingness and desire to try and help bridge the gap between the LJ community and chat, fairness in dealing with any problems that arise - I don't believe in ignoring a problem so that it will just go away, I think that problems need to be worked through in as logical and as fair a method as possible, and without playing favorites." She's had 5 years worth of moderating experience, and is consistently available on various IMs and IRC.
Two other people have stated interest, but haven't send me any sort of application. If you would still like to be considered, please send me an e-mail within the next day or-so (rhombal[at]gmail[dot]com), and I'll either add you on to this entry or make a new entry.
That being said, I think this entry makes a pretty fair assessment of all of them. So now I want to hear your opinions, and if you know of someone who doesn't watch this community or is away, and has some sort of problem with any of these people, you're welcome to comment for them. I want everyone to be happy with the new moderating situation. -- Comment away, and remember, comments are screened.
