You might not want to go barefoot around here, sweetheart. It's not safe right now. *Joe is, for the record, well-dressed, and wearing gold-rimmed glasses -- his appearance might surprise Topsy. And the scars on her back would certainly cause some raised eyebrows, so it's probably a good thing they're covered.*

She stops and looks at him. He thinks he's white. Like Rosa. And Rosa's mean. "Not inside, kin go barefoot if'n I want."

Usually I'd agree, honey, but a whole big building blew up here just lately. There are sharp things on the ground, and I don't think you want them in your feet.

But walking on stuff is dangerous, Daddy said so! The big house all went boom, and it was loud and scary and now it's all broken and dangerous. *nodnod*

How would she feel about an Indian? He's come out from wherever he hides, clad as usual in dark clothes that almost do and almost don't blend into his dark kin. He is looking at her with very dark eyes.

Topsy ignores him, and searches about in the rubble for more pretty things.

Topsy looks up at that. The glittery-thing is still near him, though, so she starts to casually make her way around to behind him.
