Introducing the Doctor.

*He swaggers in, looking a little too opulent in a black velvet doublet with scarlet pleats and gilt buttons. Yet there remains a certain scholarly sobriety about his bearing, almost an irony in the particular nature of his haughtiness, which seems rather that of scientists than of aristocrats ( Read more... )

*raises an eyebrow*
"Learned beyond all worldly learning?" *snorts* Beyond all mortal, at best.

*eyes him with attempted skepticism, although there is something about Fëanor that humbles him*

I have paid a heavy price that I should be instructed in all knowledge, both mortal and otherwise. But the demons would not instruct me in the ways of Heaven, and they did not speak to me of this place... and so perhaps I have some things yet to learn.

*more amused than arrogant, now - or maybe arrogantly amused* Indeed. Oh, indeed.
And what mortal knowledge is it you gained?

*not as uncertain as before, but not quite haughty, either* What knowledge? Whatever you will name, mein Herr -- whether it may concern the properties of the elements, or the virtues of precious stones, or the harmony of the spheres, or the alignment of sun, moon, and stars, or anything whatever which pertains to the ordering of the universe, the wisdom of the ancients, or the infernal realms.

Of the divine I know much also, but... less than I should like.

... that's cute. Lots of people around here don't fear Hell. I mean, it's not exactly the nicest place in the world, but you get used to it, after a while.

John Constantine. *offers his hand*

*shakes hands, somewhat taken aback by Constantine's nonchalance* My pleasure, Herr Constantine. But what manner of place can this be, where Hell is not feared? I have known most men to have no greater fear than Hell.

It's a manner of place where you have fucking demons and angels around every corner -- literally, very often.

*is going to have to accustom himself to the vernacular before that "literally" will make sense to him* Most exceptional indeed! Demons I have known... but angels shall be new to me.

*fascinated by the idea of seeing angels, and suddenly worried that his pact with Satan might contain some fine-print clause forbidding him to talk to them...*

*slight smile* No fear of Hell, is it?

ich_bin_faust May 2 2006, 20:58:08 UTC
*makes a great show of not looking afraid, as is a rather blustering fellow*

What fear can there be of Hell for any man who has known the tedium of complacency, which can be the only delight in Heaven?

*gives him a look, smirking slightly* *And, since the typist feels the need to mention it, Daemon could be termed too beautiful, with black hair, golden eyes, and long, black-tinted nails*

Oh, I'm sure one could find something to be afraid of. There are the Hellhounds, for one thing. --And the Harpies.

*considers, momentarily, the prospect of encountering Hellhounds and Harpies, and is not altogether comfortable about it* *shakes off the thought*

And yet is not pleasure, no less than pain, the stuff of devils? Man takes no delight in simple obedience: the infernal fires are the spirit's passions, which faith would quench. Let them burn!

*mutters to self:* Hounds and Harpies! Still, it is better than harps and hymnals...

Hell's overrated, I say. *godmods him up a stiff drink anyhow, in vague amusion* Choose life.

*is for some reason not at all suspicious about the drink, even though wtf Faust, Loki + amused = probably something is not safe here...*

*raises drink in toast* Aye, were it given to me to do so, I should choose life over all else. Prosit!

[Typist: That is, "Cheers!" Ignore the crazy German man...]

*here's a demon, then, and should you be using a bit of Marlowe, he will certainly look familiar-- the Prince of Hell often does*

*with a smirk* Thou hazzzt no fear of Hell?

*Yes, he does seem to remember Beelzebub and Lucifer parading the Seven Deadly Sins for him, many years ago. A most entertaining and instructive meeting, as Faust recalls it.*

Nay. Having no thought for God or Heaven, as I have promised thee that I have not, how should I fear Devil or Hell? At any rate, it is too late now for fear to serve any purpose: the pact is signed. I am already in thy clutches.

*He seems... oddly proud about this*

*funny-- Beelzebub recllas it as being quite entertaining as well*

Yezzz. *little laugh* Yezzz, indeed thou art. *slight pause, though what it means isn't obvious* Mephizztophelezzz shall see to thee.

He is here, then? *as usual, Faust fails to take Mephistopheles as seriously as he ought to, and so isn't terribly worried* That is well: there is much that I still desire of him, and which he still owes me, by our pact.
