Taking My Due, Nothing More...

As some of you may be aware, a 'dark' creature known as a dementor recently took up residence with my typist's mind. She was quite wrong to permit it, and has been lately unable to restrain him without asking, grudgingly, for my assistance. As a price for my help, I asked to be allowed out into the community, which she has barred me from doing ( Read more... )

Most criminal acts entirely lack any sort of style, and ought to be avoided accordingly. However, the psychology behind them is fascinating.

Hmm. And what, may I ask, are your opnions on the proper style in which crimes ought to be carried out? I am always open to advice.

The style in which any other act ought to be carried out-- aesthetically, elegantly, and preferably with some bit of wit. This tends to rule out most criminal activity, of course, since hardly ever do you find anyone who manages it.

Well, that which is criminal is completely relative to he who judges the act now isn't it? In most societies, killing someone would generally be considered murder and would thus be considered a crime. However, in some of these same societies, it is considered right, just and even a duty to kill someone who has been judged a criminal. He who pulls the trigger, throws the switch, injects the poison, though, is not considered a murderer for having done so. It is, under this same principle, that the killing of one man can be deemed criminal and thus lead to a war, in which hundreds upon thousands of men and women and even children die for the acts of he who performed the triggering assassination.

Typist: ...I have no idea...

The average citizen has little reason to commit murder. If the above average citizen, the criminal, has reason to commit murder and atrocities against the average citizen, it is therefore necessary to remove those citizens from the picture.

We might simply place them in prisons for the rest of their lives, however there are those who would wish for death rather than such a fate.

Wish for death for others or wish for death for themselves? And, really, it comes to a question of why your average citizen would ever be driven to commit a crime in the first place. How do you truly measure human wickedness? By the deeds he has done or by the deeds once done to him? The contents of his mind or the contents of his heart?

But, honestly, I make my statements more out of contemplation than out of true belief or judgement. In the realm of the fae, there is not often murder or even any true "crime" to speak of. And those who perform acts of unforgivable wickedness are punished by being made mortal. The mere concept of mortality to one of my kind is often punishment enough.

Oh, murder and crime are absolutely wrong! Every person has a right to their own life, and people ought to earn the things they get, not take them from someone else. *nods firmly, then blushes* *timidly* Or so it seems, from what Marius says.

There are those crimes that offend the earth and the very nature of what it is to be a man. Murder is but one of these.

Save for revenge: with this to fuel the fire of one's blood, the rank is cleansed.
