A little while back (in the DF chatroom) Mr Inigo Montoya gave me a brief lesson in how to use a sword. I want to ask anyone here who is skilled in weapons - any weaponry; steel; magical or otherwise - to please give me some instruction in what they know ( Read more... )

I would be happy to help, though my typist tells me that my knowledge might be just a little outdated.

It may not be outdated. Hard to tell. Depends on the situation. I had some luck with a hundreds (or thousands) of years old sword once so any help you can give I would be grateful for.

What weapon are you skilled in? Or what knowledge?

I'm a pretty good shot with a pistol and would be glad to teach you that. Senor Montoya probably surpasses any skill with a blade that I have, but if you would like any further help there as well, feel free to ask.

I'm also fairly good at saving people in stupid-but-heroic ways. If that's of any use.

I will probably take you up on that offer sometime soon. Thanks!

Would you be interested in some lessons in espionage or subterfuge? It seems like those skills might be very useful in your situation.

I am probably better at attacking than spying but it wouldn't hurt to learn something about all that, I guess. Thanks for your offer. What could you teach me to do?

You'd be surprised at how much you can learn about the enemy from observation of the people around you. I can teach you how to discern where, exactly, allegiances lie (God, king, the all mighty dollar?). I can teach you how to utilize your enemy's enemies, since they are, for the moment, your allies. While you are a bit high profile for espionage, it's rarely difficult to convince people that you're not truly a threat to them.

Some more observation skills would be good to learn (and some patience to read those observations properly... as I tend to sometimes rush in without thinking first).

Well, I could probably teach you how to use a pulser. And Grayson-style sword fighting. If you're looking for unarmed combat as well, I could probably give you some basic lessons in that.

Pulser? What does that do?

It's a more technologically advanced sort of firearm. One hit and the person dies. If you get shot in the hand by one, you might survive with the loss of that arm. Might. If you're very, very, extraordinarily, lucky.

Best weapon a man can have is his fists; you can lose a wand or sword and then what will you have left? If you're in need of a good brawl of hand-to-hand combat practice, just hit me.

Hit you? Didn't you get hit enough already...? Um.. but maybe some hand to hand combat training would be a good idea...

... and at which point during all these thoughts did the fact that *I* know these things escaped your memory? War herself trained me, Harry. Honestly!

You're skilled with every weapon and magical spell ever made? Er.. well, I know you can do the latter.. but Hermione.. I was just trying to get some other opinions. Is there something wrong with that?
