Hi. My name is Lyra Belacqua. I live at Jordan College in Oxford with my daemon, Pantalaimon. We used to have all sorts of fun adventures together with the servants' children and the gypsians, but now we're pretty busy studying. We go to school at St. Sophia's. I'm not quite used to the other girls yet, but I'm getting better

Wow! Sounds like fun. I had to run from the cops once, 'cause my friend, Will, see, he's a murderer, and they were looking for him, only I had to be real secret and stuff so they wouldn't ever know where he was. I wasn't scared, though. I could outrun a cop any day.

You have daemons? Really? I always hate it when my daemon leaves me. Why would I ever want to avoid him?
