Seeing double? (Intro)

Dec 17, 2008 01:47

There are two, not one, two elflings on the porch of the Mansion.  They are actually rather happy children, about eight years old, and talking to each other in a sing-song joyful verse of Sindarin.

They don't seem bothered by the fact that the cold is a bit chilly, or by their presence on the Mansion door.  Their clothes are tattered and soiled, ( Read more... )

The elder set of Elven twins is walking out the door and one freezes so abruptly as he sees the children that the other takes a few more steps before stopping as well and looking back at his twin. The questions and answers that pass between the two are as silent as the younger pair. Then the second twin, nearer the children, approaches them quietly. "Hello."

"He wouldn't come inside with us?" He's glad to hear that the younger twins twins have someone there they trust, though. "That's good, I'm glad that you aren't here alone. The woods here can be dangerous."

At this, Elurin laughs - it's light, and amused. "Oh, the woods are fine. We live in the woods - we know to get around." As evidenced by all the little animals around him and his brother.

"Not all the animals in these woods are so friendly. Did you ever hear about the time your grandfather was captured by Sauron?"

He nods, sternly. "Yes. There was an Elf, Finrod, he saved Ata Beren from the woods." He's serious, suddenly, even for all his carefree ways.

He nods. "I know Finrod well. But those wolves that Finrod saved Beren from, they are here, deep in the woods. You must be very careful if you go outside alone."

"Oh." He notes this - he wants to ask Firekeeper about it. "I will remember." He nods, dutifully. "Is there something else?"

"I don't think there is anything else dangerous in the woods aside from the usual." He pauses thoughtfully, then adds, "My nephew Celebrimbor has his forge out in the woods, if you were ever out there and needed assistance, he would help you. He is a good friend of Finrod's," he adds, so that the boys won't avoid Cele on the basis of his relationship to them.

Elurin has no problem - Elured might be more difficult to convince. "I will remember." He smiles, a little. "You're nice. I'll tell that to my brother too."

Elurin likes his theory that no-one wanted to hurt them and that this was all an accident. It's much better. Even if sometimes he wonder if it's not a bit his fault.

Telvo smiles back. "Thank you, I hope that he believes it someday."

If only that were actually true, this is breaking Telvo's heart.

He nods. "Your brother, is he going to be alright?" He's just worried now. And he's worried about Tyelko too.

Elured, on the other hand, is not.

"Yes, he'll be fine." He smiles reassuringly. "I just think he feels badly about what happened, and your brother still being upset."

Elurin nods again, and then bites his lip. "Please don't be angry...."

"Oh, I'm not angry..." He wants to give the child a hug but doesn't know that it would go over well. "And neither is my brother, I promise."

Elurin wouldn't mind - but Elured might jump to conclusions and try to kick you, or something, Telvo.

"It's just that.... I think.... do you have a brother called Tyelkormo?"

"...Yes, I do. He's one of our older brothers." And now we're worrying about how he's going to react to this.
